UniversalWolf: Just out of curiosity, have you ever played the Gothic games? If you like Risen you'll probably like those a lot, since Risen is based on them and made by the same developer.
I've got Gothic 2, I liked the game, but hated the controls.

Big_Lou: It really is a great game, though, so hopefully the difficulty doesn't throw you off too much!
I've dropped the game setting down to easy.

I came across my first game stopping bug.
Google could only find two others with it, and no solution.
The Medicine for everyone never showed as complete in my quest log.
I think the problem comes if you tell Belschwur about finding Martha a place to stay before you tell him about giving everyone the potions, he will tell you he will recommend you to Commandant Carlos, but then you can't talk to him again and the medicine for everyone quest can't be completed.
Then when you get to Commandant Carlos he doesn't acknowledge he got the recommendation.
It's tied to completing the medicine for everyone quest, not whether Belschwur said he will recommend you.
Anyway I got around it with he console command
setqueststatus Belschwur_BringPotionsToFolks succeed
And I'm now trying to solve the murder at the monastery.
Well I couldn't finish it.
The second part of the game was far too puzzle orientated for me.
I'll start Risen 2, hopefully it will be more like the first two chapters of Risen 1.

I've been stalling too, lol. mainly because I'm to busy playing other new games. I am currently at main quest where you need to gather this disc pieces and deliver it to the inquisitor.

Well I got a bit further than you then.
I got to chapter 4 and collecting the armor, but after meeting Patty again it got a bit puzzle heavy & I was just using a walkthrough, so I gave up.
So far Risen 2 is alright, I've just become a pirate and sworn the blood oath.
I wish I knew what to sell, and what I'll need later for crafting.
Well I couldn't finish Risen 2 either.
I liked it more than Risen, but the Kraken fight near the end bugged out and I couldn't kill it.
I harpooned it in the mouth 40 or 50 times over the hour or so, but it just wouldn't die.
According to a walkthrough I read, your only supposed to need to hit it 4 times.
I don't think I'll bother with Risen 3.
If you'd like to try something similar, I had quite some fun with Two Worlds 2. It's perhaps a bit lighter on roleplay elements but it has more content than Risen, the combat system is solid, the music is charming and I don't remember any annoying puzzles getting in the way - with the sole exception of the final boss which, much like in Risen, can't be beaten by conventional means.
Opinions on Two Worlds 2 tend to differ. I have never played a more terrible Action-RPG than Two Worlds 2. Combat is the strong point, everything else just sucks. From clunky inventory handling to button-mash orgy crafting, from cringeworthy voice-acting to the annoying dark labyrinths, loading screens when entering a building etc.

The final boss of TW2 is terrible. Is like Risen 1. But the final boss of the TW1 is much better.

Big_Lou: I can definitely see why a magic-heavy playthrough would feel a bit cheated, or even an archery build (if those can even work in Risen).

In a sense, though, I also understand why it was done. Titans are supposed to be these huge, all-powerful creatures that could potentially end civilization entirely. If just any skilled swordsman, mage, etc. could defeat them, they wouldn't feel nearly as powerful. Especially if that skilled swordsman, mage, etc. was a complete novice castaway only a couple of months prior. It makes sense for the titan to require a very specific assortment of items to be defeated, and in this case, those items included a warhammer and full plate.

Story-wise, it makes perfect sense. Or, at least, as much sense as fantasy can make. Gameplay-wise, I can agree it could have been handled better. Perhaps make the titan weapon moldable, to fit the wielder's skills, or something like that.

Overall though, I don't think it was a let-down by any means. It was a unique boss, and I can appreciate that at the very least.
I disagree. A bomber aircraft with a nuclear bomb can destroy a city. This doesn`t means that i need more destructive power than a atomic bomb to destroy a bomber. And using that logic, nobody will give some important tasks to a "novice". And if you forge weapons to titan lords, the armor can be very Thick, the hammer can be heavy and you probably will not be strong enough to use this weapon/armor set.

Also if the titan lord can remove part of your ground, why he can`t simple remove all ground and let you die in magma? The entire fight makes no sense. In Risen 3 you literally fight a titan lord(titan of death) with no special equipment and the fight is amazing.
For me, Risen 1 was like similar to Gothic, so if you like that game, you will probably like Risen as well. I was a bit dissappointed at the end of the game, because I could not use magic at the boss.

Personally, I like Risen 2 more than the first one. It may be because of how most of the people said that the game was bad, but after trying it, I was positively surprised. Also, the setting is interesting, since not many games are about pirates. Finally, I find the game super relaxing imho. I also like Jaffar :)

I haven't played Risen 3 yet.

Try it out. Since you like Risen 2, you will certainly have a lot of fun with Risen 3, too. It is VERY similar to Risen 2. All the controls, menu screens, will immediately feel familiar, but even more polished. Character development was streamlined, you get a mini-map instead of just a compass (can be turned off in the settings), you have real magic again as in Risen 1, some islands are already familiar, but you also get new islands (Calador feels almost like Skyrim, the island of death at then end is just amazing). The gold edition is about 20% longer than Risen 2, so you get quite a lot of content for your money. And you will see Jaffar and many other gnomes again!

Started to playing it a few days back. Personally, I prefer the speed travel system from Risen 2 than the teleport stones. Also the combat animations could be a bit faster, in my opinion, but otherwise, the game looks good :)
I bought Risen 1-3 on Steam last year - now I wish I would wait :(

Good RPG, but the combat system sucks and running around is clunky - still good enough for me - it is the only game with ranking guilds and skills released with your ranks, still good enough from 1 rank, and the quests changing a bit from the perspective of guilds.
Only I wish they would change the combat - the only thing they did after players were complaining, was removing of combos, so now it sucks even more :(
Instead I wish they would make animals more realistic - not that constant stupid pushing around and interrupting basic attacks.
