I decided to take a break from Risen 1 and try out Risen 2 for a bit. After playing Risen 2 for about an hour, I really could use some advice. I'm struggling with the combat system and the new attribute system is a bit confusing. Below are some of the questions I have so far.

What combat moves are worth learning?

I have come across some plants that permanently boot stats. Do stat increasing potions exist in Risen 2?

Is there a way to change the movement system in Risen 2 to be more like Risen 1? I find my movements in Risen 2 feel a bit clumsy.

Are there any mods for Risen 2?

Are there any downsides to using the unofficial patch?

That is everything I can think of so far. Thank you in advance for your help/.

That's a tough one... none more or less. Sorry, i'm no help with this question. The combat system simply sucks ass whatever you do.

Yes, but you need some knowledge of voodoo. You can learn it even if you choose the inquisition but it's barely worth it.

You can set the camera to be always behind the player so that you turn around automatically when you move the mouse. That's all you can do and it doesn't work in combat.

If you want to do it add "ForceLockAlignmentToFacing="true"" to the <game/> secion of $(insalldir)/data/ini/ConfigDefault.xml.

Well, there is some small stuff. I don't remeber everything exactly. One prevents food items to be replaced by provisions. Thats about the most you can get.

I'd say no. It fixes a exploit but other than that i see no reason to not use it.

I agree with you on the combat system. I'm not sure what they were thinking.

I know you have the option to learn sneaking from Largo before departing. Unfortunately, raiding the warehouse doesn't net you much. Is there a way to get enough gold to learn parry before I depart? Every time I fight Severin(sp?) I lose badly.

I doubt it but you aren't supposed to win that fight in the beginning. You can return to Caldera later and fight him when you're stronger.

Thanks for the response. Do you have any general suggestions on how I should build my character?
hmmm... keep an i on the potions temporaryly increasing your stats. They are great for persuading and stealing. There is even a stat increasing their effect. I'm not sure what it's called in english i guess ritual or something.

Rifles are completely imba even without learning anything. When you have to fight someone using a rifle the only thing you can do is to spam healingitems. High maximum heath is something you'd want but there are only two skills increasing your blood afair.

The "good" thing about the combat system is that it doesn't matter too much what you're learning. If you are careful(you are obviously) you'll have enough experience and gold to learn a lot of stuff. Not everything but more than enough.

I havent played Risen 2 very long yet (just came to the first island and stopped playing for now), but if it was the first fight, then I have beaten him (it took me a while, especially because the fighting system was new to me).
