GOG seem to be shipping Re-Volt patched to version Re-Volt 1.2 beta. It was initially released February the 8th 2011, but there is a newer version of Re-Volt 1.2 out there, released the August the 15th 2013. This patch is in alpha stage so I thought I would start this thread, dedicating it to bugs and discussion related to the Re-Volt 1.2 alpha patch.

Download of the latest alpha is available at http://rv12.revoltzone.net/downloads.php under "Alpha Builds".

To mention just a few of the new features:
- High resolution texture support
- Split screen multi-player mode
- Up to 12 multi-player opponents over LAN + 4 spectators.
- Multiple Player profiles

For further information, see the changelog: http://rv12.revoltzone.net/downloads/rv1.2a13.0815_changelog.txt

I can confirm myself that the Re-Volt 1.2 Alpha installer patch work for the GOG version of Re-Volt. Just make sure that you point to the installer to the right folder. The patch installer even works under WINE/Linux. Linux users might also want to see the notes I have made in the WINE AppDB:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=3151

Please reply with any issues you may find in regards to using the latest Re-Volt 1.2 alpha build!

Differences:
- GOG seem to "emulate" or redirect CD audio to /music - there might be a slight change in the way the soundtrack works in-game when upgrading.

Credits for the Re-Volt 1.2 patch goes a to Jigebren and Huki who have been working on the patch for the past 2 years. The patch is based on original Re-Volt source code.

That's it! I'm downloading the hell out of it right away.

Oh, and BTW: it's amazing what an incredible support such an old game as this gets. It's well deserved, too, because it's a true gem. Keep up the good work and thank you for all your effort gone into making this patch and the others (whoever you are), also to GOG for bringing back this classic title in all its glory! 8)

Yes, I am also really happy that GOG decided to use the 1.2 patch, rendering Re-Volt on GOG compatible to all future versions provided by the Re-Volt 1.2 development team.

The only thing which I think is a shame is that H2 Interactive / We Go Interactive / GOG is making money off someone else's work. Basically all they changed was the intro screens - making Re-Volt work on newer OS was taken care of by the 1.2 developers...But maybe the 1.2 developers will receive official support from GOG or We Go / H2 at some point!

I think they really deserve it for this badass patch.

We used the build supplied by publisher, but it looks like the situation is worth checking a bit more.
Can't make any promises, but I'll pass the info to our guys who, y'know, actually talk to people >.>

It's good I'm not one of them <.<

Thank you so much Thiev!

In the event you guys want to get in touch with the 1.2 patch developers, you can find the e-mail in the bottom of their website http://rv12.revoltzone.net/ (contact at rvzt dot net).

Warning about the version 1.2 in alpha mode, this version is far from unanimous among players online, it's better to keep the beta as stable version by default. Many changes have been implemented since the beta and collisions between cars, power of weapons, and management of lag make often the game completely unplayable...

Dolo, please stop. This is in no way related to the topic of this thread and has already been discussed to death on Our Re-Volt Pub.
You should not share a version in alpha development and say only the advantages.
Some players complained about the gameplay... So it's important to say it...
And the stable version which has been approved by developpers is only the beta...
Dolo is not lying. This new patch has advantages but also annoying differences and it's important to say it. The Re-Volt 1.2 ALPHA can be considered as Re-Volt 1.3. It is a lot different from the original Re-Volt or the Re-Volt 1.2 Beta.
Does the new patch do anything regarding the physics of the vehicles? They seem to be a little more slippery when on certain surfaces. Playing this and the Dreamcast version side by side, it certainly feels different.

That's what I thought until I started switching up cars AND I went back to using the keyboard.

It contains optimizations and fixes to make the gameplay "better". Some people think these changes affect the gameplay in a negative way, and few others think it is better than in the past. But it indeed feels different from the original game.

Really does sound like you prefer keyboard! I sure do as well though playing on a controller gives a good challenge ^-^

Back on topic, I have found one thing which seem different between GOG's version and Re-Volt 1.2. It looks like the GOG version of Re-Volt uses some hacks to redirect Re-Volt's CD Audio to the /music/ folder.

Don't worry though - since GOG also left the original mp3 files in the Re-Volt folder, 1.2 Alpha will simply play these instead. Alternatively you can emulate the CD audio if you have a CD image of the Re-Volt disc.

Will update my original topic with these discoveries. :)

I HATE using the keyboard, but I can't finish a race without it.

Ah, a principle about using controllers for racing games I presume or?
