I have an AMD E-450 based laptop which comes with HD6320 GPU and Re-Volt was running like a charm on it with 4x FSAA, Supersampling Antialiasing for transparent textures and 16x AF. But only with Windows 7 SP1 x64. I've installed Windows 8.1 x64 on it today (clean install) and now, Re-Volt is pretty much unplayable even without any FSAA. It feels horrible even in menus. All the main menu elements move around like i have 10fps. It's not much different in actual game.

I'm using AMD Catalyst 13.9 WHQL.

Also tried with latest Catalyst 13.11 Beta6 and the game still runs like crap. It seems like it just plain doesn't like the Win8.1...
Hello rejzor, this problem has been identified before. Here are the explanations.

CAUSE:
Re-Volt works like crap under Windows 8 because Windows 8 is incompatible with apps based on old versions of DirectX (and Re-Volt is based on DirectX 6, a very old version). The main syntomp is the low FPS. There isn't a definite solution about it yet but there is a workaround which pretty much solves the issue.

SOLUTION:
Download the Patch 1.2 Alpha 2013 from this website, under Downloads section.
http://rv12.revoltzone.net

Go get rv1.2a13.0815 or newer if it is available. Don't download the Beta because the GOG version already has the Beta integrated.

Run the Patch installer and choose the right Installation folder. When finished, don't open Re-Volt yet. First you need to find the game's shortcut and right click it, go to Properties, open Shortcut tab, and in the line called Target you have to add the following commandline at the end:
-emulatefullscreen
Notice to leave a space between the game's path and the commandline. Example:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Acclaim\ReVolt\revolt.exe" -emulatefullscreen
Click Apply and you're done.
Phantom's got it. In case you wonder why this is necessary here is the reason according to 1.2 developer Huki:

It's the way Windows 8 handles DirectX 6 class games. To be specific, it's an extension of the "can't flip display buffers" issue introduced in Vista - Win8 can flip the buffers alright, only at a frigging slow rate..

I assume this will be fixed within GOG release soon right? So i won't have to hunt this alpha fix and install it manually and all every time i try to play Re-Volt...

Hopefully the GOG release will be updated to the latest alpha release at some point but no one can really say what is going on right now behind the scenes with regards to Re-Volt 1.2. No official response from 1.2 developers and no statement from We Go yet (at least not AFAIK). :s

The performance for me is locked at 30FPS under 8/8.1 on two rigs, one AMD and one Intel/Nvidia. Windows 7 plays at 60. I'll try that workaround and see how it goes.

Yeah i was locked at 30FPS but if I run it in -window mode then I get 900FPS or something so just run re-volt -window
