Hello,

the only uncut Resident Evil 3 versions released for PC are the South Korean and East European versions. All other PC versions were censored or altered. Will the upcoming GOG version will be the uncut version, for example the South Korean Biohazard 3: Last Escape (CAPCOM Premier Collection)?

Source information on uncut/cut editions of Resident Evil 3 is the german Online Games Datenbank (OGDB . EU)

thanks

I have the US release of RE3 for PC. I got it back in 99 and is not uncut.
Head decap is there
Hunter taking out the head of the zombies too.
Do you have a link to that list??
I would actually love if GOG offers the censored german version as bonus content. Even this one has the right to be preserved. But I honestly never saw or owned a german PC version of RE3. So I don't even know if it has the exact same censoreship than the german PSX PAL version.

Hi there, here's the censorship info taken from OGDB and translated to english:

US PC cut info:
• Heads of zombies crawling on the ground remain attached after being stepped on (when zombies bite you in the leg the zombie head can be stepped on and be decapitated)

but, US PC version allows zombie headshots

UK PC cut info:
Englisch
• In the cutscene in the hospital in which a hunter attacks a zombie, the decapitation is missing
• Heads of zombies crawling on the ground remain attached after being stepped on. (when zombies bite you in the leg the zombie head can be stepped on and be decapitated)

unclear, if the UK PC version allows zombie headshots

It's the same in both versions of the game.

If Resident Evil 3 Nemesis appears censored on GOG like you’ve listed, we could try to ask the GOG Team to try to update it with the hotfix that de-censors the parts we can point out to them.

Or GOG could use (if possible) the South Korean version as the basic framework because that's the only official uncensored version.

That is possible! We could try that as well!

The English Australian Version is uncensored as well!
Whatever happens all these versions should be uncut. it's 2024... There are far worse things in Gears of War or Mortal Kombat.

Even if they have to work hard to reverse the censorship. In this case preservation is about preserving the actual intended presentation.

I don't even remember the RE3 PC port well enough. I thought I remembered 2 and got that horribly wrong so I'm not gonna say what I think I remember and it's not much anyway.

They might have improved the graphics engine, and included all 6 localized language versions (including English and Japanese) for the base version of the game. So they might’ve completely uncensored it for the GOG version already, but I’m not sure.

I don't work in the programming area, but i believe that there's no excuses for GOG to not to work to reverse the censorship, I mean, we have lots of versions that we could use as basis....

That's very unlikely, especially the in game censorship part for the German version. You can see from the screenshots on their pages that RE3 is being treated the same way as RE1: a couple wrappers on top of everything and maybe a few stability fixes. Don't expect to see perspective correction for 3D rendering or any form of actual enhancement / QOL improvements.

I'm 99.999999% positive it's going to be Mediakite for Japanese and dedicated installs of the X-plosive versions for every other language.

So all language versions, except the Japanese version, will be based on the censored PC release version in Europe, right?

During the In-Game, you can’t even kick the zombie's head off or stomp on their heads clean. Even the European versions censored the scene where the Hunter decapitates the zombie’s head in the Hospital where you play as Carlos.

Do you think the GOG Team will try base the uncut Japanese release version for only the English language version or no?
Some versions have bits of censoring, some have no censoring at all, some have odd censoring like the German version. Unless GOG patches out all the in-game censorship for each individual version (good luck finding all those switches), what we will get is pretty much a vanilla experience. Before you ask, no, they can't take the exe of an uncensored version from another region and just shoe horn it in, since those come with different information like file path structures and game text too.
