But just out of curiosity, is this like the first Resident Evil GOG release where the Japanese version is the SourceNext version by default, or is the conversion mod pretty much required for RE2 no matter which language installer you use?
There is no Sourcenext port of RE1. Only the Windows95/U2K ports of RE1, which were relased world wide. Which The GOG port of RE1 Is.
Source next only made ports for RE 2 and 3 in 2005 which were never officially released worldwide and to this day remain exclusive to Japan. Classic rebirth actually translates the game itself when installed.
These ports are the Windows 95 ports of RE 2 and 3. Meaning it's the version you would've actually brought in stores Back in the 90s. if you install RE 2 and 3 in Japanese you get the Exact same Windows 95 port but in japanese because this was the version that WAS released worldwide.
Gog would've have to go through an entire different process of First licencing and then translating and then optimizing The Source next ports.
