I've seen several people having this problem, but has anyone found out any solution as of now?

When I play the game in fullscreen, all I see is a black screen with the music playing in the background. If i run the game windowed, i do get the FMVs, but shrunk down and shoved in the corner. I've tried instaling K-lite codecs as someone suggested here, but nothing seems to work.
I dunno what it could be, but you need to include more information about your system for folk to be able to help you. According to FFprobe, the video stream is encoded with Indeo 5 (IV50). Try switching your display adapter if you can, see what happens.

I've got AMD Ryzen 5 3600, Nvidia RTX 3600 Ti, 16 GB RAM, I don't really have an option to switch my display adapter.
Still no fix, is a coded issue, but they dont seem to worry to fix it.
I just gave up and installed the Rebirth mod.
Sadly, I lose the ability to back up saves.
Try using a third party wrapper.

I even use the FMVs of the SourceNext version. You have to edit the exe though.
Go to RE123 - bplaced and search for the topic: RE2 "98" How use FMV 4x3 (640x480). It should be under Information -> Resident Evil 2, page 3.

Are you playing on a desktop or a laptop?

Thanks, but the codec is enabled - it just doesn't scale the video correctly.

I've tried a bunch of different methods, including using an alternate wrapper - which somewhat helps, although it introduced a few new problems (while the FMV were scaled correctly, the gameplay was not). This pretty much confirms that the whole thing is caused by the wrapper. I've found a workaround - it's not a permanent solution and I still hope that the GOG team is going to patch this thing so it works as intended. In the meantime, if you're experiencing something simiar, here's what I do:

-First things first, i go to the Nvdia Control Panel and set scaling to "Integer". This has to be done because we're going to run game in 480p. I'm sure there's an equivelent AMD setting.

-Now, go to the Configuartion utility of the game and set "Presentation" to "Windowed" and resolution to 640x480p

- Go to the game directory and right-click on the Leon or Claire executable, depending on what you want to play. Go to the "Compatibility" tab and select "run in 640x480 resolution". Close the tab.

- Download Windows Borderless Gaming and add the game to it.

Ane there ya go, the game is running fullscreen at its native resolution, scaled in integers, the FMVs are displayed correctly.

It's very janky and not an ideal solution, but hey - works for me, for now. Let's hope someone at GOG will look into the matter.

For me it works in 640x480 out of the box, however when I try to upscale 320x240 with 4xMSAA the fmv's are tucked away in the corner (and backgrounds and menus get filtered for some reason)

It works for me when I run the leon/claire exe as admin without gog running.

I play the game on GOG Galaxy, and the FMV's work perfectly on my PC. I wonder why it doesn't work for certain people.
For me - it doesn't work correctly regardless of GOG Galaxy. Running as admin doesn't appear to make a difference either.

It sounds like you are having problems with the video codec. Do you have a codec package installed, like K-Lite?

Yes, as mentioned in the first post. And the codec is enabled, because it does start and play (if only in windowed mode). The problem is the video doesn't scale at all, being stuck in the top left corner, all shrunk down.
