For Leon:
1) open LeonG.exe in a hex editor
2) jump at hexademical address 147758
3) replace the 10 value there with 00.

For Claire:
1) open ClaireG.exe in a hex editor
2) jump at hexadecimal address 1479B8
3) replace the 10 value there with 00.

The game will now behave like the other versions, so no more white blood, etc.
Just what I've been looking for, vielen Dank!

I take it this also includes no more immediate cuts to black for Claire/Leon/Sherry/Ada's death sequences?
That can still happen in some modes, iirc. It's not part of the German censorship.

GeminiREbirth: That can still happen in some modes, iirc. It's not part of the German censorship.
According to Schnittberichte it is:

PC: Capcom / Virgin Interactive (1999)

- Grey Blood in cutscenes (when Kendo is killed, for example), as well as during regular gameplay, when shooting the zombies
- Green Blood when downed adversaries (including zombies, dogs(?), etc) are bleeding out
- Player Character's Death Sequences are not shown, instead it cuts to black after the player character is dragged to the ground, with "Sie sind tot" ("You died") displayed over the black background

Would love to do some testing but have only access to an ancient laptop incapable of running RE2 for the time being - if anyone else is able to help out, feel free to report your findings here, vielen Dank schon mal.

The death sequences remain censored (tested with Claire & Leon, should be the same for Sherry and Ada). Kendo being overwhelmed and killed by zombies still only happens off-screen (shortly after exiting the gun shop) as well. Similarly gory cutscenes like the "chestbursters" leaving their hosts (Irons & Bertolucci) are very likely still cut then, too.
I guess these aren't as easy to revert (via hex edits), if at all.

The blood being red is a good start though.
The comments on the Schnittberichte page actually list a couple more things allegedly "unique" to the German version:

- all enemies have been removed from the Sherry segments (which would include dogs, zombies and cockroaches, if I'm not mistaken)?
- the zombie being shot in the head by Leon in the Claire intro is censored (looks identical to the one in the JP or US version to me?)
- Birkin in of his later forms cannot decapitate the player character (he can?) any longer?
Most of those issues seem related to room scripts, rather than the censorship switch. Could still be fixed by injecting proper scripts.

Is this a tentative confirmation that you might look into it, if time and other commitments allow?
Needless to say that I and probably quite a few fellow Muttersprachlers would appreciate that a great deal.

If I got that right this would also mean that you cannot just take the Japanese version, for instance, and simply swap out every file containing Japanese localisation data for the ones containing the German localisation data, because there's actually more to it than just that (things being hard-coded and if that's the case, figuring out the necessary script adjustments for bypassing)?

Besten Dank für's Testen und Auflisten.

I won't be looking into it any further, I don't even have the GOG version. The exe change was done because a user donated the german exes for me to check if the censor switch was still there like in SourceNext.
As for the rest, I'm sure the community can take care of it: there are tools out there that can be used to uncensor the german files or to import the german script into regular room files.

I see, thanks though for getting the ball rolling.
Hope it doesn't take too long then for somebody else to take over and "accept the challenge", so to speak.
