I'm not familiar with the PC port. Does it contain the censored US FMV's or the uncesored Japanese ones?

The US PC Version was uncensored. In Germany the pc version was censored, not sure about Japan.

GoG version is uncensored, i'm not aware if the german language makes the game censored or not.

I think the Japanese versions of RE are censored (unless you get the Z version).
This is from Wikipedia:
The Windows version, released in December 1996, featured the uncensored footage from the Japanese version, and the opening intro is in full color rather than black and white. It is the only version of Resident Evil that has all of the uncensored full motion video (FMV) sequences, which includes the uncensored introduction, Kenneth's death scene in its entirety, and ending.

This is absolutely wrong. I had the german release from Virgin Interactive. It was completely uncensored. Chris Smoking, Colored Intro, Extra Blood and Kenneth's head and staff roll death scenes. RE2 was the first game in germany that was censored on PC with green blood. Everything that came before it was not.

I think it depends when you bought the game. The first years, it was definitely censored, see here: https://www.schnittberichte.com/schnittbericht.php?ID=3260

The Director's Cut on Playstation that I played was censored as well.

Germany always did a "great" job with censoring. ;) The country with the most censorship and cut entertainment content in the whole world.

No. You linked the wrong report in your reply that was between the cut PSX and the uncut german PC version.
Below I posted the correct version. It was later also released again as "White Label" with a different box.
But both are the exact same uncut release in germany. Because both were based on the uncut japanaese PC version.
There was never a cut PC version of Resident Evil 1 in germany ever.

I have the germany version and it's censored.
Black and white intro
No falling head with kenneth
I will post a picture of the CD. I bought it in Germany a few years ago when i was there for vacation. It was a retro store in oldenburg. Paid like 20 euros, complete in big box. The big box was a bit worn out, but it came with everything

The article I linked to IS about the original PC version.

In diesem Schnittbericht möchte ich kurz auf die Unterschiede zwischen der ungekürzten PC-Version und der zensierten älteren deutschen Version eingehen.
The PS1 Director's Cut which I played, back in the days, was censored as well, by the way. Though not in the same way, it seems.

I don't know what you linked to there, but, the versions I played here in Germany definitely were cut/censored. In fact, I didn't know the uncensored intro FMV at all, and was quite surprised to see it in the GOG version... the scene where the dog was shot, and they show the details, I didn't know that part at all.

The U.K. Virgin Interactive PC version is censored before the uncut PowerVR release.

The edited black and white intro removes a lot violent scenes, including Chris’s smoking during the CAST sequence at the end. The Half-Eaten Kenneth’s Head scene is removed as well. But the original bad ending with Chris Redfield smoking is left unedited. I believe the bonus machine guns for Chris and Jill were removed from the censored U.K. PC version, as if it is based on the censored U.S. PS1 version.

I knew i wasn't crazy xD.
Even i installed it once again on a 86box machine and censored game.

Guess you guys were correct then. The german PC version iceberg goes deeper than expected. haha. So many different releases nobody knows or remembers. Great to see that the german GOG version is equal to the two uncut versions I linked (and physically own) then.

To be fair i was not expecting the German PC version being censored. Because i also own the US version and it was uncensored in my mind the PC version of Resident Evil were uncensored.

But that's one of the reasons why i like to buy old games made for the german market, you never know what you will find.

I'm a huge fan of Half Life and a few years ago i was obsessed to getting different releases than the one i got back in 1998. When i got a german version it was amazing to see robots instead of the regular hgrunt.

No worries, the amount of versions is very confusing indeed. And, it's not as if you were wrong, it seems like there were censored and uncensored versions (later) for the German market.

That's probably the most disgusting example of what censorship produces. So friggin' stupid. As if adults have to be treated like kids, from people who probably never even played a video game for their pleasure.

Thankfully, it's a bit better now in Germany. But, there are still games which are censored. Idiotic.

Agree, censorship is silly and in most cases is like trying to cover the sun with your finger.

Most of the time it has the opposite of the desired effect.
If there is something that's seen bad like some symbols in Wolf3d don't just ban the game. Acknowledge the fact that it was a huge mistake done in the past and teach people why it was wrong and why it's something that should be never be done again.
