I always assumed that this was one of those rushed terribly moded DukeNukem engine games that were released in such high numbers and low prices that they became "bestsellers" by default.... Does anyone find it offensive?

I thought it was great when it first came out. It's not really a budget game, it's the same guys that made Kingpin. I've only played the original though, so I don't know much about the expansions / sequels.
I'm sure some would find it offensive, but I found it hilarious :D

I haven't played it in many years, but it was pretty entertaining (from what little I remember). I'll pick it up probably.

Redneck Rampage isn't bad. My only real problem with it was a lack of enemy variety. Some of the Southern humor is funny -- if sort of cheap -- and the drunk/sober gameplay mechanic adds a bit of depth. The music is good too: Drew Markham (president of Xatrix at the time) sings some of the songs, in addition to providing a few character voices.
Make sure you read the manual: it's set up like a cheap tabloid newspaper from a small hick town and is really funny.

I'll be honest and say that all I ever played of RR was the demo, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's a DOOM-y shooter, but hilarious and crude-- power-ups are beer and moon pies; aliens invade your trailer park; player voiceover taunts include gems like 'I'm on you like stink on *&^3' , etc.
Gimmicky, but fully realized. It's a good one.

I agree with everyone else. Haven't played in a while, but I do remember it being a crudely-drawn, humorous, dumb, fun shooter. The powerups are funny; you can drink booze to regain health, but if you drink too much you'll get so lopsided drunk you can't move. There's plenty of gore, and the expansions aren't half bad. It plays a lot like Duke 3D or Shadow Warrior, but it isn't quite as good.
Rough around the edges, but silly and good-natured.

This series is still one of my favorite games of all time. I find most new FPS lack the fun factor that you could get from the series.
And I for one can't wait to hear "My Head Hurts My Feet Stink and and I Don't Love Jesus"

I have only played the sequel, but I must say it was fun as hell, it's full of ideas, and it's quite unique. One of the best Build games (along with D3D, Blood, Shadow Warrior, and others)

Redneck Rampage is awesome in my book. .The traffic circle where you start out at, that's really there in Louisiana. It's in a city called Alexandria. The signs for 71North & 71South are real, it's the main north/south road through Louisiana that goes from HWY 190 near my home town of Port Barre, through Alexandria, and up to Shreveport. I-20 goes across the southern US, it's how you get from Shreveport to Dallas, Texas. Just a little "useless information" in case you didn't know. I just found it interesting that RR was set there. The cow pies are a dig on Moon pies (chocolate coated gram cracker cookies with marshmallow middle). Goo Goo Clusters are real (and really good). Pork rinds/skins is an awesome snack food of the south. Never seen "Bubba Beer", though there are a LOT of guys called Bubba (as a nickname if nothing else).
If you have the cusspack (which has a LOT of cursing in it) it actually makes it seem more "realistic" than funny to me, in that people in southern Louisiana seem to swear more than anywhere else I have lived (and I have lived in quite a few countries).

I just got it and I was thinking man this game use to be way better than this but then once I figured out how to change resolution etc... Its all fun again

Gotta admit, the explosive chicken launcher did not sell me. It was stupid rednecks.. And gameplay wasn't bad, I really like doom on the xbox 360 (yeah, i know it's available for pc but it didn't come together for me until I played it on xbox), so as soon as I can figure out how to get my joystiq working (i already know, too lazy to get it) I'll probably bone some mother trucking redneck butt.
