The setup allows one to change it all the way up to 1600x1200 but the game doesn't seem to like it and boots into a really low rez.

Of the possible choices in the setup, the highest I got was 1024x768, which IS one step up from Duke 3D.

Why would those other options even appear in the setup?

I suppose they are just being reported as valid resolutions for your display by the OS.

DOSBox doesn't support that high of a resolution because of how much processing power it would take to emulate a game at that resolution and we don't want to hear the complaints.

I'm trying to figure out the highest resolution supported by the game, and as a corollary, why even higher resolutions were available as choices (but not everything my display can do)
The highest resolution I can get is 1280x1024.
