Please try to run the game in window by changing the shortcut's value
to: [ "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron
3D\Baron.exe" -window ].

Notice the space between the " and -

This will give RB3D in windowed mode.

If you are planning to use Glide Graphics (much better then Direct draw or Windowed Mode) you need to add a Glide Wrapper (It takes place of a Glide Enabled Graphics Card which haven't been built for ten years.)

I have a number of Glide Wrappers hosted here:
https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=e196374a237958b4&sa=30411298#!/?cid=E196374A237958B4&id=E196374A237958B4!111!cid=E196374A237958B4&id=E196374A237958B4!248

I would suggest starting with the one I have named as CJglide2x_02 as it is the one that works best for me. Just place it in the game folder.

Then start the game and go to Graphic Preferences and select Glide. Then after exiting the game go back to the shortcut that you modified and remove the -windows that you added, other wise you will need to set Glide everytime, and once with Glide enabled the game should not crash. If it does crash, you can always re-add -window

Tried your suggestion. I am not a programmer. It would not let me change the shortcut.

I hate that shit.

I have two Ideas.

One, make new short cuts from the game folder and add the - window

And if that doesn't work, take an image of the short cut properties and possibly I could create one with the proper information and maybe your computer will accept it. But I need all the info (therefore the image of the shortcut properties) so i can create one that goes to the right place.

And if any expert of computers wishes to tell me I am being foolhardy, go ahead, just also give an answer to the problem. :)

It won't let me make a new shortcut. I hate this. I'll never be good at computing and yet I want to make a game.

I hear you. I have so many ideas on making a game similar to RB3d that is better (based on many years of war gaming) but simply do not have the ability.

Okay, just to be clear, you can not right click on Baron.exe and select "Create Shortcut"?

How about right clicking on the short cut itself and selecting properties?

I need to know the info that is in the Target window and the Start In window

For example, for me on one of my installs of RB3D, this is what I have

Target: "E:\Program Files (x86)\Sierra\RedBaron3D\Baron.exe"

Start In: "E:\Program Files (x86)\Sierra\RedBaron3D"
Or you can make a batch file

Forgive me for reopening an old thread but I just installed the Red Baron pack and was having the same problem as the original poster. Found this thread and carried out Wailwulf's advice to change the shortcut Properties to include the -window modifier. This got me past the crashing. Hooray!

I went into Preference - Graphic Settings - Graphic Options and changed Graphics to Glide. Returned to Main Menu and Quit Game. Went back into the Properties of the shortcut and removed -window.

Restarted the game and... it starts windowed. Went back through the game and verified that Graphics are still set to Glide. Looked at the shortcut Properties and verified that -window is not present. Even tried double clicking Baron.exe in Windows Explorer. No matter what I do, the game starts Windowed. And now I'm stumped. :-(

I'm running Windows 7. Here's the text in the shortcut properties:
Target - "C:\GOG Games\Red Baron Pack - CJGlideWrapper\Red Baron 3D\Baron.exe"
Start in - "C:\GOG Games\Red Baron Pack - CJGlideWrapper\Red Baron 3D"

The folder name is kind of long as I made several copies of the installation with the intention of trying some of the different glide wrappers.

Any advice? Its as if the game is remembering that it started Windowed even though there seems to be no such setting. Thanks for any help.
OK, I may be an idiot. Right after I posted that last message, I started up the game again. This time, I went ahead and clicked Fly Now (which I had not done before). And the game went full screen. Played just as it should.

When I ended the mission, the game went back into Windowed mode for the mission debriefing and all subsequent play (other than actual flying). Is this normal?

Thanks again.

Yes, that is normal. It is how it works for me.

Excellent! Thanks for putting my mind at ease.
OK, I can't get this damn thing working either. I'm running on Windows 7, and the game crashes right after the Sierra logo is flashed. I've been lurking in the forums and the most common solution seems to be to run the game in windowed mode, but I haven't been able to get that to happen.

By default, the shortcut target is:
"C:\GOG Games\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\GOGLauncher.exe" GOGRED3

And the "start in" field contains:
"C:\GOG Games\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\"

Quotes are present in the fields, not my addition. As I'm understanding it, I need to add a space, a dash, and the word "window" to the target field, yes? Which would render it:
"C:\GOG Games\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\" -window

And is that all there is to it? Sorry to have such a newb question but I've spent all afternoon tinkering with this stupid game so I decided to swallow my pride and ask somebody who knows what's going on. Any other suggestions would of course be appreciated.

Cheers.

Yes, that is all you should have to do.
Still not working. Thank you for your patience though.

EDIT: Nevermind, I've got it now. Appreciate the help.

Ok, tried to add -window to the start in field and it won't let me add it in. I get a message saying that the "folder "C:\GOG Games\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\" -window specified in the start in box is not valid"

I am adding a (space) and -window to what is already there and nothing else. What am I missing?

Thanks!
