I just bought, downloaded and installed RB and RB3D, but when I start RB the game goes fullscreen and all i see is green and pink colours. I get to the menu and I get sounds, but I don't get the rigth colours.

I've tried to run it a resolution of on 800x600 with 16bit colours, but nothing has changed.

Any tips?

I've tried RB3D, and I got as far as the intro movie. Then it crashed.
I also tried to run the game in 256 colors and 640x480 resolution, but that doesn't work.

I read in another topic this:

No I get to the main menu, but I can't select anything with my mousecursor.
Okay, now I can play RB3D, but although I have sound in the Main Menu, I have not if I'm flying....

Ok, so now RB3D works fine, it turns out I accidentky turned off the sound. But I still have a problem with RB.

As to the "-window" function, You usually only need one time, for after that, even after removing the "-window" from your shortcut, the menu will always be windowed. But that way you can have it set to fly in full screen mode.

If you want Glide graphics, you can get Glide wrappers (little programs that make your computer emulate as if you have a Glide enabled Graphics card) I have four of them uploaded here:

I would start with CJglide2x_02, as it its the easiest and higher end Glide wrapper around. Just need to drop the file in the game folder. "CJGlideWrapper" is an earlier version, not as intensive on the computer, but not as high of quality. The other three are old timers, and can be higher quality, but also require a bit of tweaking to get right, so read the ReadMe's if they are included.

So RB should be being played through DOSBox. I assume you haven't changed any of the GOG configs for the game? What are your machine specs and OS?

I'm looking for a joystick to play RB3D with. Do you have any recommendations? I'm thinking of the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and the ThrustMaster T-16000M. What are you playing this game with?

On a side note: I get the green and pink screens at more games, for example Ultima 4, Tryrian2000, and Teenagent (I got those for free by singing up here). So I think its the DosBox or something? You assumed right, I didn't change anything. As I stated earlier, I get those colours at more games. Other games, like Beneath A Steel Sky and Dragonsphere (which I got also free) are running smoothly, I have no problem with playing those 2 games.

I found the solution. I followed the advice from Arkose:

"Launch the graphic mode setup tool from the start menu and experiment with the "graphic mode" box until you get something that works. ", from this topic:

I set the graphic mode on Surface, and now RB works fine. I will try the other games too, to see if they also work with a different graphics mode.

Great! As for joysticks both Wailwulf and I use the Logitech Extreme 3D pro (well he did anyway, I don't know if he still does, but I do) so we're partial to that stick. It's pretty solid and functional - with a lot of buttons. Depending on the price in your country it could be a pretty good deal too - but in some countries I've heard the stick can be quite expensive. A great mid-range joystick.

That said, the ThrustMaster T-16000M also seems to be a good stick - more expensive than the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro in the States - but may be worth it. I've never used the stick myself, but the reviews I've read on it were fairly positive. The description of the stick indicates that it comes with more features/precision than the Logitech and is especially nice if you're left-handed as it allows one to switch the handedness of the stick.

Ok. Well, here in The Netherlands the Logitech costs 40 Euros, and the Thrustmaster 45 euro's, so it's not a big difference. I will go for the Thrustmaster then.

Do you have any tips for RB1? I mean, I start a new career and I go on patrouille, but the Fokker Eindecker is not the best plane, so I've go down already 8 times because I got shot by the Nieuports.

Which side has the advantage depends on when you start. Historically, at the very initial stages, the Germans had the advantage as the Eindecker laid waste to its opponents (the Fokker Scourge). However, by late 1915, when the game actually starts the the Allies are already leap frogging them with the arrival of Nieuports and other planes shooting down Eindeckers left and right. However, the big leap is then made by the Germans with the arrival of Albatross D.IIs and D.IIIs. Eventually Allies once again leap frog the Germans with the introduction of the Camel, the S.E.5., and new SPADs and so one ... The Albatross advantage is quite large and starts around September of 1916 and culminates in Bloody April in 1917. So if you want give yourself some time where you will enjoy aircraft superiority over your opponents, starting your campaign in the fall of 1916 (the "middle of the war option - October 1916") should give you that as good training wheels for the game. Of course eventually that superiority disappears. :)

Ok, thanks for the explanation. I always started at the beginning of the war. I think it's a case of luck and eventually skill . I always plat wit all realism settings on, except limited ammo and realistic maps. Just got my first medal :D

And I ordered the Thrustmaster, it will arrive around Thursday.

OK, what's this mid-war option? When I play the Germans, the game starts in Sept 1916 and one can choose any later month to actually start. Am I missing something? I know one can use the mod program CM11 to start earlier (although, without further mods, with the same planes (French will have mainly the mono-winged "Bullets"). Is there a mod that has segmented starts?

The early vs mid vs late-war option is for Red Baron 1, not Red Baron 3D :)

I use Logitech Extreme 3d with RB3D, IL-2:1946, Rise of Flight, and have it set up so I can fly in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas. There are those who say there are better sticks out there, but for something like RB3D, it is very Good.

As to the graphics problem (the link 404s for me) are you talking about in the menu screens for RB3D? There are two fixes I have learned.

#1 Have a batch file that kills Explorer before starting the game:

taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe
start /w Baron.exe
pause
start explorer.exe

Copy above, paste into Notepad and save as a .bat instead of as a .txt file in the games directory. If you use one of GabiLaser's RB3D starters, like Reload (highly recomended for SP), change "baron.exe" to "reload.exe"

#2 Right click on Desktop, select Screen Resolution, and then minimize and play the game. Leave the Screen Resolution open on your computer (don't close it), but you can minimize it.

Now, #2 does not work for all games that have this problem, but is does for RB3D for most people. #1 does give you an easy way to restart Explorer after playing. But if that does not work, you can always open up Task manager (ctrl+shift+esc or ctrl+alt+delete then select Task Manager) click on Run, and then type in Explorer.exe.
