Hello. My game crashes right after the opening cinematic. I get "Red Baron II singleplayer has stopped working" error messege.
Running Vista 32bit.
Tried the compatibility and Run as Admin fixes without success.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
This question / problem has been solved by Wailwulfimage
I had the same [problem. Received this from GOG support and it did the trick for me.
Please try to run the game in window by changing the shortcut's value
to: [ "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron
3D\Baron.exe" -window ].

Once in, you can set the graphics to Glide if you have a wrapper. Vista seemed to not like Direct draw Mode unless it was windowed.
Once setting the graphics to you preference, you can remove "-window" from the shortcut. My menus are always "windowed" now, but the game plays in full screen glide.
Thanks for the fix. I had missed it in an earlier post.
I'm a newbie and am running running windows 7.
The above solution got me into the game, but it will not run in direct draw. I do not have a glide wrapper (what ever that is). My video card is tha ati radeon 5748.
any help will be appreciated.

Pdandss,
Glide graphics were a style/type/process of Graphics that were created by the Voodoo graphic cards. The company, 3Dfx that built them went bankrupt and was bought out by Nividia in 2001. The Glide wrappers are little programs that allow you to create that style/type/process of graphics with today's graphic cards.
The Glide wrappers that are out there are dll files (dynamic link libraries) that for RedBaron 3D just put in the game folder. There are two main types with a number of versions. One type is called DGVooDoo and the other is known as OpenGlide. There are other types but I have never used them. OpenGlide worked best with my WinXP machine while DGVoodoo 1.4 works best with my Win7 machine.
I have posted 4 Glide wrappers here:
http://cid-e196374a237958b4.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Public/GlideWrappers
Place them one at a time in the game folder. You may need to experiment to find the one that works for you. For Open Glide read the read me as you need to configure the ini file to you computer.
Read this for the DGVoodoo 1.4 and 1.5 tweaks if needed:
http://web.archive.org/web/20080531114428/http://www.polovski.com/FAQ/dgvoodoo.htm
There are other Glide wrappers out there on the net, but the ones I have posted either work for me or work for those I know who still play Red Baron 3D.
I too can't play in direct draw mode with my Win7 machine.
Thank you so much!!!
your suggestion worked like a charm.
Do you know, can I use any of the add ons for rb3d? like western front or any of the others.
Again, thank you for all your help

You want to add the " -window" in the Target Window.
The Target window includes the exe file you are starting.
The Start window does not include exe file, just the folder the game is in.
So on your short cut to RB3D, right click with the mouse and select properties.
In the Target window you will find something like this (depends on where you installed the game): "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\Baron.exe"
Add the ' - window' to the end of that line. Do not for get the space before the '-'. Should now read like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\Baron.exe" -window
For me, I ran the program, changed the setting to Glide (You can do so if you have a Glide Wrapper for your Vista machine). I then went back to the properties of the shortcut and removed ' -window' from the target window. The game now runs great and I can fly in Glide, but all the menus are in widowed mode which can make it hard to read since the menu is 640x480 and my monitor is set for 1280x1024 resolution.
Now, if the game runs fine in Glide mode, but you have the same problems after removing '-window', what you will have to do is add ' -window' back to the target window in properties of the short cut and everytime you play, will need to go to the preferences and set the game for Glide mode, or you will be flying in windows mode.

Wailwolf, thanks a lot for being detailed and to the point, it works fine. Your help is very much appreciated! I did orginally type it into the target area but when the computer asked about changing things it had me worried, I stoped and decided to post here.
I will now try to install the promised land Full Canvas Jacket, of course after I back up the install I have now.
Thanks again!

Your are welcome and I am glad what I write is clear and detailed. I hate it when folk assume I know everything when I am having a problem, so I try to write for someone worse off then me in most situations.
And yes, back up, make lots of copies :)

Help...I recently had my Dell XPS-420 desktop upgraded from a Home Premium Windows- 7/ 4GB/ ATI Radeon 3750 -to- a 8GB/ ATI Radeon 5750 with Windows Ultimate 7 OS.

I just downloaded voodoo1.4 to my "My Documents" folder-it looks like-[dgVoodooSetupHoogie]
[Glide2xd.ll]

I also downloaded the1078 patch [RB3D_First_Aid_Kit_Beta101]; it's in my "Recent Places" folder.

I also messed around with the "Compatibility" with VERY little improvement.

Can someone out there PLEASE,PLEASE "SPOON FEED" ME as what to do? I'm pretty sure that my files are NOT where they're suppose to be, but I don't know how to put all the information into where it needs to go to get it it operating like I want. Same problem with "Curse You Red Baron".

P.S You can reach me if you want at: robertnapper@comcast.net

GOG's version of RB3d is already patched to 1078. But if you want to fly MP, download the copy I have here:
http://cid-e196374a237958b4.office.live.com/self.aspx/RBFILES/Baronmmpexe.rar

glide2x.dll goes in the game folder with the Baron.exe and baronmmp.exe.

But you really haven't stated what your real problem is, does it crash? or is it you just do not know where the files you downloaded goes?
How do I change the shortcut value

Six posts up:
