GoG.com Red Baron PackRed Baron 3D MP Patch beta version 0.8 at
http://redbaronplayers.net/
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've tested with a baronmmp.exe 1.0.0.7 patched from 1.0.0.6 with 1.0.7.8 patch
and it fixes this problem
Re-applying 1.0.7.8 patch to GoG's baronmmp.exe does NOT fix the problem
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I thought GOG RB3D would have included a Glide wrapper install .. you perhaps have made this WinXP/Vista compatible in the sense you can see the message boxes .. but seeing as you can't have 3dfx / Glide cards in WinXP or Vista machines, you only have DirectDraw output .. this isn't 3D and XP compatible without a Glide wrapper
I'm a bit disappointed so far .. Red Baron(1) is working ok except after my first quick mission, joystick was acting like I had it cranked in a right turn and it wouldn't respond.

Flybert: Getting "out of sync with other players" message on some servers where my other RB3D install works fine
http://www.flybert.net for the community's MP Paint Collection

Same problem could enter a server but every time I tried to fly I would get booted! Message, Out of Synch with other players. So I installed the rb3d1078 patch, got message game was up to date But I Still Installed the Patch. Now I can fly no problem. When you start the game it will say No Disc just click on upper right cross 6 times game will start. This worked for win XP 32 & win7 64 multiplay. Hope this will help people having the same problem.

Also, this is supposed to be WinXP compatible, but the there's no shell music or in-game sound as it is .. RB3XPfix.exe or similar community mod does work however for XP

CJ said I was getting kicked from his server when I tried out this install, all I was getting was nets, but never kicked. As to the sound, this is their answer in suport:
Solution
Upon launch on XP systems, Red Baron 3D's engine detects a conflict between the computer's USB joystick and its sound card. To get around this problem, unplug your joystick, launch the game and plug the joystick back in once in the main menu.

I've not figured out the out of sync problem yet.. doesn't happen all the time ..
Only thing different from stock RB3D CD is "SetSpeed.exe" that I can see, so it's suspect
GOG also put in 1.0.0.3 server, but that's not an issue

Salute All!
Well I did a little more testing, new install of GOG RB3d on XP puter then transfer it to my Win98se machine with a Voodoo3 card. Then I Deleted the SetSpeed file.
Gen de Deville's Hell server *Out of Synch*
KK WF7 server *Out of Synch*
Black Adder's server *Out of Synch*
Pop's NFM Island server *Net Timed Out*
Swordfish Island server *Net Timed Out*
Blacket NFM Island server OK
Then I replaced the Baronmmp.exe with one from a old working install !
All was ok, no *Out of Synch* or *Net Timed Out* message.
So I think the problem is the Baronmmp.exe
Also if I reinstalled the RB3d1078 patch this would fix the problem

Good work. I will try to wortk with CJ (Server Operator of Blacknet servers) to see what version does what in his logs.
Interesting on baronmmp.exe
The file sizes are the same, version and internal comments the same between
RB3D CD and GoG RB3D's baronmmp.exe .. though windows wouldn't see a few bits
difference.
Applying 1.0.7.8 patch *should* create a baronmmp.exe 1.0.0.7 dated 2/8/1999 .. can someone check that on their *old* install ? ... GOG's is dated 9/21/2009 ..
like to see the 1.0.7.8 patch file they used .. maybe it was modified ..

5 old RB3d winXp 2/8/1999 4 old win98se 2/8/1999 my GOG's 9/22/2009
But if you apply 1078 patch to GOG's it will show 2/8/1999

I tried to install the 1078patch on my Mad Otter/GoG install on my Vista machine but am unable to. I get the message:
"Setup found an old version of Red Baron 3D Multiplayer on this machine. You must update Red Baron 3D Multiplayer to version 1.0.0.7 before you can apply this patch. setup will now abort."
I was working with CamelJockey and his server. If I join with a copy and paste of an install from the disk, I have no problems. When I join his server with the Mad Otter/GoG version, the server immediately gives error messages and the server boots me for bad checksums.
So something is not kosher with the Mad Otter/GoG version

I'll be posting a GoG Red Baron 3D MMP patch and have seperate downloads and information about Glide wrappers in a few days

The no sound bug is well known, it appears to be an error that happens with USB Joysticks/controllers (the game is from the Gameport days), but there is a simple workaround:
Unplug your USB Joystick/Controller and start the game, once the game is fully started, plug the stick/controller back in, and it should work! with sound and everything.
EDIT: Ahh, i see Wailwulf allready caught that one, disregard.

I will be including the XPsoundFix program in my patch ..
Will probably release tonight
I just bought this game on 12 Feb. the first time I flew, I had sound. Later I went to fly again...no sound. I'll try the unplugging the joystick , starting the game, plugging it back in.
If that don't work I'm through, I am not a file manipulater.
I have XP 32 bit wit Intel graphics.
