Hi, I grew up playing Wings and recently picked up the Red Baron pack and am loving it - apart from some controller issues.

Every now and then - in fact 80 per cent of the time - when I activate the joystick option the controller goes insane. It behaves as if a direction button is always being pressed.

This only happens some of the time, but as I said most of the time and makes the game unplayable. I am playing on Windows 7 64-bit, using both an Xbox 360 and Xbox one controller, both have the same issue.

I have read that people have got these controllers to work without problem on the GOG forum, but have also read elsewhere that this is a known problem that has never been fixed.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

That and constant movement in menus. The problem seems to come and go randomly.
In order to get the best out of your joystick or analog gamepad in Dosbox you can do the following.
Open the Dosbox .conf file with notepad and find and change:

[joystick]
timed=false
swap23=true
(optional)

Then the joystick must be calibrated in the game, you can do that from the main menu or press Alt-C when you're in a plane.
I have the game on CDROM but it doesn't support the throttle very well, I don't know about the GOG version.
AFAIK the joystick going haywire in the menu's is a known bug of Red Baron, it should stop if you move the stick or use the keyboard.

Thanks for the reply!

I'll give it a look when I get home form work and report back.

It's been years so I'm a bit foggy - I had the circling problem but it wasn't the joy stick as I recall. Believe it had something to do with autopilot and not using it stopped it from happening. Also beware of autopilot landings - sometimes they fly your wings off or just use the ground as a target for a missile (your plane :) ).

Thanks again for the help - I haven't been able to find the time to sit down and try all of the suggestions offered just yet, but I will get around to having a look. I'm really keen to play this game - the little moments I have been able to play have been great!
