Hi,
I have downloaded the Hells Angels big patch plus their "3D patchOTE" file that seems to be an update of the contennts of a folder simply called "patch" in the RB3D program.
I have a couple of questions with which I hope someone can help.
Does the big patch automatically install to the correct location in the gog version (it says on the patch installer "C /sierra /red baron) or, do I have to specify the gog location which I assume would be C /gog /red baron 3D ?
The other patch consists of 3 .vol files found in the data-3d patch folder in RB3 do I just paste these straight from the downloaded folder into the program patch file?
Thanks
Don
Welcome to modding the game :)
1st Piece of advice, make sure the stock/GOG version is where you want it in settings (Glide wrappers and such) and that it works great. Then make a copy of the RedBaron Folder. That way you can always start over if something goes wrong in the modding phase.
Except for space on one's hard drive, you can have multiple copies of the game and they all are playable. (I currently have eight copies on mine and they all work with their different tweaks, Of two of them, one is just the CD version set as a base point and one is the GOG version set as a base point, both with Wrappers, mplayer.ini files, and some graphics pre-set), the others are Revenge of the Jastas 3 Mod and the Redux Flight Model for MP
The installer is pointing to where RB3D was installed in default mode from the Sierra CD back in 98, so you need to direct it to GOG's Red Baron 3D folder (This is the path to mine: E:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D)
The 3 vol files in the 3Dpatch folder are your terrain. Just paste them so the vol files are in the 3dpatch folder (Mine again: E:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Red Baron Pack\Red Baron 3D\Data\3dpatch) If you tire or do not like the OTE terrain there is also two versions of Promised Land (both quite different in look) that are available.
Thank's for the help Wailwulf it is much appreciated, good point about about making additional back up's on the hard drive.
Although I have a specific folder for the original GOG download which also contains sub folders with notes from forums plus downloaded tweak & patch files your way saves having to remove and reinstall and reconfigure if something goes badly wrong.

Yeah, the time I forgot to make a backup IL2 before adding mods was a serious hair pulling moment. But still very annoying when I do that with Red Baron 3D
