I launch the game and can see the Ubisoft logo flash for a second but it immediately minimizes and won't maximize. Only way to get rid of it is to force quit the program. Ideas?

Go to shortcut properties, disable desktop themes / composition / aero. Try compatibility modes.

I'm not even asking if you run it as admin ;)

Tried all..some just make it crash immediately instead of afterward..still no dice.

If it's something graphics related I don't have much experience with ATI cards, unfortunately.

Do you get some error message? Does the game has any .ini file? Maybe it's possible to tweak some settings before launching it.

No error message unless you count the 'Rayman2.exe has stopped responding' thing after I force quit it. There is an ini file but the settings are minimal:

[Rayman2]
GLI_DllFile=GliDX6
GLI_Dll=DirectX6
GLI_Driver=display
GLI_Device=Direct3D HAL
GLI_Mode=1 - 1680 x 1050 x 16
Language=English
ParticuleRate=High

Just in case, disable Catalyst AI. It is already configured to native resolution, so it isn't scaling issue. (Out of curiosity, try running it in 1024x768; and x32 instead x16. )

Do you have any background applications running? I'm trying to search for some similar problems but the causes range from open Mozilla, to outdated DirectX, which means it can be pretty much anything.

I wonder if it has something to do with 'D3D9 Overlay: Not supported'...

Catalyst AI can no longer be disabled.

Guess it was background programs? Not sure. But it works now. I'll mark your post as a solution.
Even though this topic is old, I'll post the reason why that happened.

16-bit works only up to a maximum resolution of 1280x1024, you must set the game to 32bit to use any higher resolution.

At least, that's what I have to do on some other older games, so it might not be the same here.
