I'm just curious to know if anyone here has actually read the novel, "Rainbow Six" by Tom Clancy. A lot of the characters featured in the game are from the book, and personally I found his tales of counterterrorist SWAT-team-esque action to be really interesting and fairly realistic as well. It's not my favorite Tom Clancy novel, but it's a good 'un all the same...
I read it along time ago, it was pretty good but as my memory is crap I don't remember much about it.
Book is excellent in my opinion. It was one of the few books that I have read that had me sweating as I turned the pages and I became very attached to the characters in the book.
It's also the first Tom Clancy book I was able to read all the way through without taking a break to read a different one.
Yupp I've read the book, quite good in it first half, all the operations but the ending is quite "hollywood".

Have you never read Tom Clancy before? All of his books end in a Hollywood Action Movie-esque way.

Yeah, I've read his books, but "Pure Tom Clancy" is probably the most subjective descriptive term you could possibly have used. What "Tom Clancy" means depends on what you think Tom Clancy is. "Pure Tom Clancy" could just as easily mean "Pure Shit" or "Pure Dogmatic Right-Wing Ideology" as it means "Pure Hollywood."
True, Clancy isn't bad but a tad bit dogmatic especially his Cold War books. He isn't bad he can just be tiresome I think the worst was Hunt for Red October when he went over proper SCRAMM Procedures and how a nuclear reactor works. Still he takes very technical books at time sand can make them entertaining if not over the top.
I read the book, but it took me 6 months to get through it.
Ha. I was like 12 when I read it on vacation in Italy on the beach and didn't get the better half of it. You don't think in those weird neo-con structures when you're 12...just liked the heroes shooting bad guys part. The rest was pretty much awful.
I've read the book and listened to the "book on tape" of it as well. I found it very entertaining all the way through. Too bad that sort of anti-terrorist group does not exist for real. It would take care of a lot of bad guys out there.
Ive always thought that Tom clancy should write the Script for a future Cod Game.
I read the book, and that's why I picked up the game close to its availability on GOG. I loved it, and it was the last good Tom Clancy book (at least until I get to try out his new one with several characters from Rainbow Six, which'll be out in early December).

I've read the book as well, two times actually. It was pretty entertaining.
