I recently installed the GOG version for some nostalgia. I have enjoyed in the past taking a multiplayer character (just doing LAN play by myself or with my brother) from scratch to a body 84 beast that can take out anything.
This time, I did it was a mage because I was curious if the mage truly is broken when it comes to lvl 5 monsters. So I rushed my character up to the 20 million experience necessary to start receiving stat potions as a reward for completing certain quests (ie. intercept lvl 4 dragon). To my disappointment, no stat potions were forthcoming. After this continued to happen, I hit the web for some answers.
One suggestion was to change the executable file from allods2.exe to rom2.exe. I have no idea why this works, but it did. So I was suddenly receiving stat potions as rewards for completing the aforementioned quests. Also, I noticed that I was no longer getting randomly ejected from the game like I was previously before changing the executable name.
A couple things to note however, in order to get this to work properly. Changing the executable name means you will not be able to enter RoM2 via the GOG Galaxy screen. Rather, create a shortcut of the executable and enter the game through that. Furthermore, after creating the shortcut executable, add -1024 to the end of the target string in the properties section of the executable shortcut. Otherwise it will enter the game in 800x600 mode and that's just no fun.
Anyway, I hope this is of benefit to somebody. It helped me enjoy the game much more.
