I tried creating a multiplayer character to tinker with, and the game states that it does not have the CD inserted and has entered client mode, which means I cannot create a game.

Any way to remedy this?

RoM 1 doesn't have multiplayer support.

RoM 2 has.

Edit: Also you will need to install special client to play multiplayer in RoM2, it should come with the game.

Darn, I used to run RoM1 multiplayer using a CD image and it worked but I had hoped to not deal with that by purchasing it off GoG. Is there any way to work around it with a fan patch or a minor code adjustment or is it a lot deeper seated than that?

I might just go back to using that cd image software so I can play it with my kids- although I guess only one computer would need it since the game still enters client mode for the others...

Yes RoM2 comes with a multiplayer client or some such in the extras- I downloaded it but have yet to check it out.
Yeah, I'm having the same problem. I even tried putting in my old CD of the game and it still gave me the error message of no CD inserted.
I managed to find a way to create a game and play some maps but unfortunately as soon as I enter a shop the no CD error pops and the game crashes. If the CD check wasn't there I'm sure it would play fine.
Is there any way to clear the code asking for the CD check or is that not something to hope for. I would love to get organized Lan play with the younglings of mine...
This should be fixed in the latest build.
Patch 1.03 (5 May 2016)
* fixed issue with scrolling too fast
* fixed CD prompt in multiplayer
* fixed blinking cursor in menus

I've not tried it yet, but that is a solid changelog - thanks!!!

Working great now. Thanks!
Fantastic, now I can get the kids in on the fun.

Care to elaborate a little more? I mean, now you folks do some lan gaming? Amazing!
How's the multiplayer experience with RoM? Gotta say I'm pretty curious!
Thanks ;)

I played tons of this game with my older brother when we were many years younger. It was just a nice excercise in working together to tackle bigger mobs and such.

You each control your hero, and you play as the normal game was- you could probably get into pvp and such as well but I honestly just had fun playing the tactical end with others.

My kids are 7 and 9 so the mechanics are not too difficult for them to grasp, and it gives us something else to LAN with when we aren't fragging each other in unreal or some such. I try to get my kids to play a lot of the different games I used to play growing up. That way they can appreciate where the gameplay evolved from and enjoy many different stripes of games.

Superb and cool story. Thanks a lot for sharing!! ;D
My twin kids are still too young, they're almost 3yrs old but RoM will be one of those they'll enjoy, I hope.
Mainly 'cause my overall lan experiences were based on FPS games and I wish these were all different... but heck, RoM with buddy (buddies, even better) must be way more fun than the singplayer campaign.

ps: this dad tinkered some real cool stuff for his kids, huh? :P
