I just bought the RoM bundle today and after installing the first ROM I can't get it to launch correctly.

It launches from Galaxy minimized to taskbar, along with a windows notification sound (but no actual notification window) and I can't maximize the game from taskbar or even alt-tab to it, and after about 30 seconds or so I get a "Windows Visual C++ Runtime Library" error message and the minimized game closes.

If I try launching the game NOT from Galaxy but directly from the exe in the game folder instead I get the same results except I get the Windows Defender "Permission for RoM to access windows" pop-up when the notification sound arrives but after clicking "yes" it continues on with the same results as the Galaxy-launched version.

I've re-installed the Microsoft Visual C++ library to see if that would fix it and no luck.

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong or need to do?

Edit: I've also already tried running it with "as admin, running at 640x480, and low-color, and Win XP compatible" options enabled and no luck.

Not sure. RoM1 works fine for me in Win10/x64 on my desktop using the offline installation (I've not tried through Galaxy).

The game switches to 1024x768 at startup, maybe that's something your pc doesn't like? I don't have any problems with Windows defender, from that message maybe are you on a reduced access (ie. Non Admin level) user account on Windows? Is there something else running that is forcing it to alt-tab away or lose focus during startup ?

Best off contacting support I guess.

If you're looking for a long shot: You could try experimenting by removing dlls one at a time from the install folder, especially gog ones or windows ones that have been copied in - effectively removing the gog hacks and relying on windows native abiltity to run the game. I fixed Entomorph this way so it's worth a try, ymmv of course.
