The game is completly silent, no sound at all while everything else on my Ubuntu 14.04 plays sound just fine!

Here is my solution: I installed the 32bit compability libs as described www .gog.com/ support/race_the_sun/some_games_come_with_a_32bit_binary_only_what_does_this_mean

As i used the deb-Installert, i am a bit suprised that they were not included as dependencies. Also there was no error message whatsoever.

AFAIK, none of the GOG debs have any listed dependencies.

Which sucks. The packages happily presume you run a 32bit system and never bother to install libraries they depend on.
BTW I have found a solution for my installation, running Kubuntu 15.04 64bit.

After installing the following libraries:

libasound2-plugins:i386
libspeex1:i386

The game started to have sound - not only that, but other GOG installed games like Papers Please now have sound too.

Thanks! Someone else recommended installing the 32 bit pulseaudio drivers as well, but that removed my 64 bit ones (I have enabled multiarch support) and broke all sound on my system. I reinstalled the 64 bit pulseaudio drivers, and the sound started working in Braid (and everywhere else).

Speex is a voice codec, so I'm not sure how useful it'll be for games, unless they have a need for voice playback. Maybe multiplayer games with voice chat?
