toad3k: So I see that Quest for Infamy is here, why isn't Heroine's Quest? I was under the impression they were made by the same people? It is free on steam even.
Kaldire: Well
1. heroines quest was a fan made game, not a legit game and its free, on steam go get it!
2. Quest for infamy is ALSO a fan made game but by a great dev team (the real creators didnt make this game)
3. HERO-U is the real remake and the real creators of quest for glory!!!
so keep an eye out for corey and lori's hero-u!!!
Im also a bit weird-ed out, that steams version of quest for infamy doesnt come with anything but a pdf manual,
when gog comes with sketches and stuff
anyone know how I can get those items like the poster and sketches?? and sample tracks until the ost comes out
ive emailed the devs and steam, but no one replied on if steam buyers will get the goodies, as of now they dont!
let me know I really want to buy this game, and I love gog but it seems all this should be available on steam also in terms of the bonus goodies (in this case its not to much stuff, not like a free game or something)
Mmmm
1. Heroine Quest is indeed a game made by fans aka people who love the old sierra games, but it is not situated within the realm of QFG by any means, though it is clearly inspired by it, just as Quest for Infamy is. Saying this independant jewel is non legit is an argument made of thin air. Judging people's hard work over years of unpaid toiling, except for the currency of recognition by the community of gamers, as such, is cruel if not harsh at least. One can read about HQ on the developers' site:
http://crystalshard.net/index.php?g=16. I suggest picking up the game for free through
http://www.indiedb.com/games/heroines-quest No need to bother with s****, best to leave the green light to the green lantern (see comments below).
2. Quest for Infamy truly is made by people who hold a special place in their heart for the QFG-series and the inspiring feel of some good games of old in general. Both HQ and QFI are created with AGS and both developer-teams share a passion for those classics of yesteryear.
Personally I do not like all these comparisons between QFI and HQ, though understandable as it might be. Besides having the game engine and zeal in common, both games serve a different purpose. QFI is more quirky and tongue in cheek. The premise is foretelling: You barely escape from a fling with the baron's daughter and the first sane person you meet happens to be Udo. That's one big red carpet for the enfolding plot and the pseudo-medieval scenery with anachronisms and odd references included. The narrator is both irksome and charming, which is exactly how I like it. HQ is far less scoundrel-like and remains more within the pattern of the traditional RPG-adventure, practically invented by QFG, but it does so brilliantly while adding some extra ingredients of Norse mythology and the threats of strident winter conditions. There's room for humor of course, but in slightly milder doses.
Both teams are to be admired and supported for their efforts and results. I do wish for HQ to appear here on GOG as well, because it belongs here, for its quality and spirit.
Two things I like to state about Blackthorne, one of the driving forces behind QFI: He scouts the internet for any comment related to QFI, be it a review or customers and enthusiasts involved with the game. Firstly I appreciate how he tries to respond most directly to any issue a player might encounter. Secondly I admire how he reacts to mixed and bad criticism towards the game:
http://www.incgamers.com/2014/07/quest-for-infamy-review. All winners are giants but the real colossus standing out is the one who can carry defeat with dignity and actually learns from it.
Vae Victis. To be fair in restoring the balance I'd like to add a more positive review:

3. Hero-U is not a remake of QFG. It is a spiritual successor to QFG and in development by the Coles, the original creators of the QFG-series, It's currently in production and still stretching for its ultimate goal of 650.000 $. Up till now the landmark of 350.000 $ is reached. Anyone who holds this project dear can contribute through their site at
http://www.hero-u.net/. I am not affiliated to this project in any way but with the number of game boxes sitting on my shelf (both the separate volumes and the anthology of QFG-series) and having the digital GOG-version, one might assume I'm a fan supporting their cause.
To me Quest for Glory ranks between the all time greats of the Gabriel-Knight (especially The Beast Within) - and Baldur's-Gate-series. The fond memories they produced are priceless and exceed any expectation or reward any other game has offered me.
On a side-note however I am not a fan of digital distribution platforms that hinder you from owning a game after buying it. One needs a permanent sign-in and permanent internet-connection. To me that resembles more like perma-death and the opt-in for a permanent sign-out. Isn't that like acquiring a house without obtaining the key or hiring your wife in marriage? Such folly... Anyway to each their own... if not the game.
In short... Badies don't give goodies...and I am lingering off-topic...
