How do you know when this fan patch has been applied to the game? I extracted the zip file for ver. 1.3.1.A into C:/GOG Games/Quest for Glory 3. However, as nothing is different when I launch the game, I am not sure if the parch is properly installed.

Can someone help me?

I guess you could always start a new game with a thief and see if you can pick locks on the chest in your room at the Inn?
Thanks for the suggestion. I finally seem to have confirmed that I have the fan patch active.
I was unable to get disqualified as a paladin while playing as a fighter in version 1.3.1A, despite throwing rocks at the Guardian so that it caused it to spin me around. I did this just before meeting Johari, but no matter what I did, I was still turned into a paladin just before the peace conference. Is there a problem in Ashlancer's patch. He said in his readme that attacking the Guardian automatically disqualified you as a paladin but that didn't happen to me. Do you have to attack the Guardian at an earlier point in the game (which makes no sense)? I'm sorry to complain, but I seem to have found a problem with the patch.

I just did a speedrun through QFG3 using a Fighter, and I was able to finish the game as a fighter with 500 points. I've attached a screenshot here as proof.

I did several things that might have disqualified me as a Paladin.

(1) I didn't swear the oath with Rakeesh just before we left for the Simbani village
(2) I threw rocks at the Guardian, which caused it to spin me around and question my motives for attacking it. I didn't answer it and I just asked it for the gift and left
(3) I didn't give any money or food to Harami. I just told talked to him and left. (I lost 4 honor points every time I left and he shouted at me while I left, begging me to help him)

Not sure which one of the things I did that disqualified me as a Paladin, but I finished the game as a normal Fighter.

According to Ashlancer's README, you need over 150 Honor points to be a Paladin. I only had 144 when the War started. So I didn't even have enough Honor to become a Paladin. Seems like if you really don't want to be a Paladin, keep visiting Harami at night, walk up to him, then leave the screen. Then come back to him, walk up to him, then leave the screen. Keep repeating until your Honor is below 150.

Ok, thank you for all your advice.
One more question: is there another way to lose substantial honor after Harami no longer appears in the bazaar? For example, can you lose honor by killing leopardmen?

Killing Leopardmen won't lose you honor.

But Ashlancer created a way to lose/regain honor at the Simbani village after the War starts, but before you get kicked out forever. From the README:

Q - I'm a Fighter who became a Paladin, but my Honor is maxed out and I can't gain any more Paladin Points.

A - This is a design flaw in the original game. I created a workaround (also coincidentally!) when restoring the post-conference event. If you haven't crossed the waterfall, you can actually go back to the Simbani Village and meet Uhura in a one-time event. Once there, keep repeatedly trying to enter the village and your Honor will gradually be lowered. Then talk to Uhura and keep consoling her to raise it again. This should grant all the Paladin abilities you've rightfully earned. Once you leave, you are forever banned from the Simbani Village.

If there are other ways to lose honor in the game, I don't know them. Sorry mate.

Thanks, although this obviously doesn't help in a case of a fighter who didn't want to be a paladin.

It would also be nice to alert Ashlancer to a potential bug in his patch (regarding attacking the Guardian not disqualifying you from paladinhood).

Remember, the Leopardmen who attack you are racist savages (or demon-possessed, but what's the difference), and killing them is not only self-defence, but a favour to the rest of the tribe.

Are you guys playing it in Dosbox? Because in scummvm the game crashes the at the intro when teleporting into Tarna.
I prefer using scummvm over Dosbox.

Are you testing with a recent version of ScummVM (2.8.1) or even a daily build (2.9.0git)? Does this crash still occur with those/

If so, could you report this to the ScummVM team on the ScummVM bug tracker?

(I quickly tested on mine with ScummVM 2.9.0git and had no crashes with the GOG version of the game, but without any additional patches installed)
