I've finished QFG1 VGA and chose to save my character file at c:glory1.sav as I don't have an a: floppy drive. The game claimed the file had been saved, but it's not there. Any ideas?
You shouldn't need to save it as "c:" just a name ending with ".sav." The SAV file should be somewhere in your folder in its proper alphabetical position. Try it again, this time without the "c:" designation in its name.

Thanks! It turns out it ended up in the game's directory even with the c: . I assumed it would end up in the root dir of c:
I am having the same problem, except I just finished playing the EGA version.

I saved the game, both as c:glory1.sav and then just as glory1.sav. I still can't find the game in the /gog directory, the qfg 1directory, or the ega directory.

Could someone point out exactly where it is please, or how to solve this issue?

I don't want to have to go and replay the entire game in the vga version now....

I actually found it by going to the 'My Computer' root directory thing and searching for "glory1.sav" . Give it a shot.

Windows Vista/7 with game installed in Program Files (x86) folder, and UAC enabled. The saved file will be stored in "C:\Users\{YOUR_USERNAME}\appdata\local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Series\..."
Reason for that is that by default you do not have write permission on the Program Files folder, thus it will be stored in the VirtualStore directory. Either run the game(s) as administrator, or better yet, install to another location (C:\Games for example).
I am having the same problem, when I try to save my Quest for Glory 1 character at the end I cannot find the file. When I run the game 'as administrator' all my save files are gone and I still cannot find any of my save files. I looked in C:\users etc but could not find an appdata folder under my user name.

The folder is hidden by default, either enable the showing of hidden folders, or type it in the address bar. You can also use the %localappdata% or %appdata% as address, which will take you to appdata\local or appdata\roaming respectively.

Thank you for the help - that worked for me!
EDIT: NEVERMIND, I'm an idiot. I didn't wait at the end. I just saved my game and quit, I forgot that you have to wait until the last cutscene to export the character.

None of this has worked for me.
I installed the games to a separate hard drive (I:/).
I know where the save games are going (in the VGA folder in the Quest for Glory 1 directory) but each save game is showing up as GLORYSG.001 the file type is 001 or 002 depending on which save game it is.
There is another file called GLORYSG.DIR which I assume is the virtual directory these save games are being held in.
I've tried copying the files over to QFG2 but they aren't recognised.
I assume this has something to do with dosbox but I have no idea where to go from here.

For the record, yes I checked the VirtualStore folder and I ran a search over all my hard drives for the save game. I'm 100% certain that these 001, 002, 003 etc. files in the VGA folder are my save games.

Help please? *puppy dog eyes*

Hey guys, I struggled with the exporting thing as well. What worked for me was to save it without the c: and then go to the VGA folder of qfg1 and on your windows 7 folder bar it says "Compatible files" or "compatibility files", click on it and your saved games and export will be there. You just copy the export to your qfg2 root and that worked for me.
I'm having issues exporting my character from QfG 1 VGA to QfG2 also.

I've checked all the solutions previously posted and nothing has worked for me. :\

I'm running the GOG version in ScummVM because I couldn't get the GOG launcher to work. Not sure if that has a bearing on the issue or not.

I've finished the game (a million times now), completed the final scene where I fly off on the carpet, even let the credits run until the end. It asks me to save my character and I enter a name (I've left it as the default glory1.sav and tried changing the name). I've probably made 10 different character saves now. When I went to export my character to QfG2 it said no character data was found, so I went to look at the files - I found zero character files. Not only that, but I can't seem to locate any of my save games either (though I know they are there because I've saved/loaded the game a million times, and exited the program a lot). I am on an administrator account and have the folder option checked to let me view hidden files and folders. I've checked out the game root folder, the appdata virtualstore folder, and pretty much everything else I can think of, and can't see any .001/.002 or any .sav files. I've searched for the files in explorer and no luck. I've clicked the 'compatible files' button in the folders and still nothing.

I have no idea what to do from here. I try to run ScummVM as an admin and try to save the game that way, but as soon as I boot it up in admin mode the game won't find my game save files. I've never been more confused!

Any help would be so much appreciated <3

Anytime a file (saved game for example) is available when running as normal user and unavailable when running as an administrator, it means that the file is stored in appdata\local\virtualstore directory. Not sure about ScummVM, but I don't think it is using any other directory to save the files, but it is possible it is using it's own directory. Take a look at appdata\local\virtualstore for the directory ScummVM is installed (eg appdata\local\Program Files (x86)\ScummVM) and see whether it is saved there. I believe that it will be in the virtualstore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Series directory, but you already said it's not there.
If all else fails, search your computer for the glory1.sav file.
This helped me find the saved game, but I still can't import a character. I have tried copy/pasting the quest1.sav file, but it never shows up in the list of files when I click import.

Can someone be real specific of where to paste the fine to?
Paste it to the folder that the game is installed to.
