I found my .sav files in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ScummVM" (the files wouldn't show up in a regular search), but I have UAC enabled.

Do you only have the one save file, Adorton? If so, it looks like your save files are being stored in the ScummVM directory where you found it. It's an annoying question, but are you 100% positive you finished the game (waited til the credits started rolling) and took the option to save your character file for export? I can't imagine why a save game would be in the directory but not the character file.

Also, I used ScummVM because QfG1 and 2 refuse to run on my system using GoG's preconfigured methods. Messed with the graphics modes and everything else I could think of and nada. ScummVM ran the games perfectly in half a second.

My virtualstore dir is empty.

ScummVM does really weird things with saves. I thought I located them, but I don't think I did. Supposedly, 1.5 will treat saves normally.

At any rate, I'm replaying the VGA version in DOSBox to get my character. I resolved my fullscreen issue (which I posted a solution to in a separate thread).
If QFG2 doesn't recognise your .sav file as a "proper QFG1 save file", open the .sav file using WinRAR or similar, it will contain another file. Extract this to the QFG2 directory and add the .sav extension. Problem solved!

In my case I played QFG1 VGA in ScummVM and tried exporting to AGD interactive's QFG2 remake. I don't know if it is applicable to other combinations.
If you are suffering form teh QFG1 to QFG2 import bug (such as other classes turning into a 'fighter'), you can install this patch;

http://www.sierrahelp.com/Games/QuestForGlory/QfG2Help.html#CharacterImport

This is the official sierra patch for that issue.

JMich: Windows Vista/7 with game installed in Program Files (x86) folder, and UAC enabled. The saved file will be stored in "C:\Users\{YOUR_USERNAME}\appdata\local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Series\..."
Reason for that is that by default you do not have write permission on the Program Files folder, thus it will be stored in the VirtualStore directory. Either run the game(s) as administrator, or better yet, install to another location (C:\Games for example).

All this does is open a string of text. There are no files inside a .sav file.
I am deleting this post since I solved the problem.
