Baeus: Paste it to the folder that the game is installed to.
I have pasted it to these 2 places:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2

and

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Pack\Quest for Glory 2

It does not show up for either of them.

Arkadia: Any help would be so much appreciated <3

JMich: Anytime a file (saved game for example) is available when running as normal user and unavailable when running as an administrator, it means that the file is stored in appdata\local\virtualstore directory. Not sure about ScummVM, but I don't think it is using any other directory to save the files, but it is possible it is using it's own directory. Take a look at appdata\local\virtualstore for the directory ScummVM is installed (eg appdata\local\Program Files (x86)\ScummVM) and see whether it is saved there. I believe that it will be in the virtualstore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Series directory, but you already said it's not there.
If all else fails, search your computer for the glory1.sav file.
Thanks so, so much JMich! Turns out my files were saved in the ScummVM directory of the /appdata folder.

Just my luck that I finally locate the files and now I have a new problem. But that's for another thread. Thanks again!
im NOT playing the GOG release, but this is how i do it. this might help.

i have DOSbox mount a virtual A: drive in its config file:

"mount a c:\floppy"

the file ended up in c:\floppy

the stuff above looks confusing! good luck! I do want the GOG release (for part 5) and hope i dont have this trouble if i ever replay them!

oh, and if you get TOTALLY stuck... there is a character editor on the Sierra site for this game. actually, they have all the resources you could want over there:

Yeah, that's how I prefer to do it too: set up a folder to serve as QFG's "floppy" and just have all four DOS games mount that folder as A:
I was able to find the save files once I un-hid the folder! Thanks JMich you're a boss!

grassman17: I looked in C:\users etc but could not find an appdata folder under my user name.
avatar
JMich: The folder is hidden by default, either enable the showing of hidden folders, or type it in the address bar. You can also use the %localappdata% or %appdata% as address, which will take you to appdata\local or appdata\roaming respectively.
avatar
Coodie: Could someone point out exactly where it is please, or how to solve this issue?
avatar
JMich: Windows Vista/7 with game installed in Program Files (x86) folder, and UAC enabled. The saved file will be stored in "C:\Users\{YOUR_USERNAME}\appdata\local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Quest for Glory Series\..."
Reason for that is that by default you do not have write permission on the Program Files folder, thus it will be stored in the VirtualStore directory. Either run the game(s) as administrator, or better yet, install to another location (C:\Games for example).
You sir are my hero.
Has anybody tried saving a character in ScummVM? I just finished QFG1 EGA in ScummVM and I can't get it to export my character. I've tried several times under serveral filenames (even in c:). Despite several attempts, I can't find the .sav file.

Any ideas?

As was mentioned in another thread in this forum, it is possible that the file is located in the Appdata\Local\ScummVM or Appdata\Roaming\ScummVM. Let me see if I can find that post, though be aware that I have neither ScummVM nor the game pack installed atm.

Edit: What do you know, the post is in this thread. Seems like I need some coffee...

I checked those locations, and all I have is a log file and scummvm's .ini file (both under roaming).

My ScummVM install directory does have a file called QFG1.000, which I believe is where the save games are kept. But that directory does not have the character file.

Coffee kicked in, so let's see if I can figure this one out.
I guess ScummVM is installed in "C:\Program Files (x86)\ScummVM", which is a UAC controlled location. By running it as a non-elevated user, anything that needs to be saved there will be saved in "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ScummVM" instead (quick shortcut is the "%localappdata%\VirtualStore" which will take you to the VirtualStore directory). Take a look if the files exist there, otherwise ask Arkadia since he found the files somewhere.
Hope this helps.

UAC is disabled, so my VirtualStore folder is empty.

It's not in the ScummVM install directory, which is the only other place it could be.

Last try then, since I'm quite unfamiliar with ScummVM.
Open ScummVM by itself, and it should give you a list of games configured for it. Select Quest for Glory 1, but instead of running it, click Edit Game, go to Paths, and see what it has as Save Path. If that path is "Default", click on it and see where the browse will take you. Take a look there, since it is quite possible that is where the file is located at.
If this fails as well, then only other thing I can suggest is searching your entire computer for the glory1.sav file, and writing down the location where the file exists.
Have you not tried searching for .sav? That would be the easiest way. ctrl f in your folders should bring up a search bar then just type .sav and it should show up and give you the path as well.

I also have no idea why you'd choose to play the game in Scummvm, it comes preconfigured to run in dosbox.

I can't find any .sav files related to QFG on the C drive.

I chose ScummVM because the QFG 1-3 will not run in full screen in Dosbox on my system. I also prefer the EGA versions un-dithered.

Crossing_Swords: Hey guys, I struggled with the exporting thing as well. What worked for me was to save it without the c: and then go to the VGA folder of qfg1 and on your windows 7 folder bar it says "Compatible files" or "compatibility files", click on it and your saved games and export will be there. You just copy the export to your qfg2 root and that worked for me.
This worked for me as well, thanks mate rep given.
