Ok, so you know that mushroom exploit in the VGA version of QfG1 where you gather a load of mushrooms and can keep selling them to the Healer for effectively unlimited money? Yes, yes, I know, cheating, whatever. :p Anyways, I ran across a weird bug with it.

Using the GoG made launcher & config file, when I try to do it, after a bout 5 to 7 pickups I get a string of messages popping up ended in the message "Debug" and another message box that won't go away. The one about putting them in the backpack. And then when I look at the character sheet, all the numbers are just randomly thrown everywhere.

On the other hand, when I copied the game directory elsewhere, used the Sierra Help pages installer, and loaded my save from right before starting this and go through the same actions - no bug. It works perfectly.

Anyone have any clue what's doing this? I'd guess something in the config file, since they're different between the two installs. My GoG made config file is the same as at install, except the changes made to the graphics options from the graphics program as far as I know. And switching the sound option to general midi from the dos install prompt.
That happens when you pick so many mushrooms that you can hardly move. I suggest you increase your Strength and/or get rid of some inventory items before trying it.

If you sell more than three mushrooms to the healer, however, the excess gold will NOT carry over to Quest for Glory II. I think the same goes for any money that you can get in the remake that you couldn't get in the original, although the only other example I can think of is when you fence certain stolen goods. (An item that could be fenced for 100 silver in the original could be fenced for 500 silver in the remake, and when I imported my thief to QFG2, he had 40 less gold than he should have.)

In short, I've found that the mushroom-selling glitch isn't worth it.

Interesting, you sure about that? I know when I've farmed the goblin hideout for crazy amounts of silver I did get crazy amounts of gold to start QFG2 with. Maybe it does compensate or scale in some manner, though, I don't think I checked the exact amount - I just know I've started 2 with over 300 gold before. :)

And agreed, mushroom bug isn't worth it. Especially since you do have to watch your weight due to that bug.

Strange I couldn't do that bug at all, the Healer says she has enough mushrooms.

She says that, but she's lying. She doesn't want you to know about the glitch ;)
Gold doesn't transfer into QFG2 (either version) at all. There's no area in the import section for it. It was added later, probably an oversight. That said there's not much to buy in QFG1 so it makes little difference. Gold also doesn't transfer into QFGIV but for more obvious reasons. So really the gold from QFG2 is the only gold that accumulates and maybe from 4 but I don't think so.

I don't know if IV exports your money bag, but it definitely isn't imported into V. Don't know why as there isn't an obvious plot reason, I guess they just didn't want to program the money-changing interface. (And, maybe Silmarians have little use for Mordavian money. :))

I guess that makes sense. You do travel across Gloriana into a land with new currency. 1 they just didn't write it into the export file. Both Shapeir and Tarna have money changers. Silmaria doesn't but it does have a huge bank so their really is no reason. I'm going to say that the Hero gives his money to the burgomeister in order to rebuild the monastery he burnt down.
Yeah, really the only reason I do the mushroom bug is because buying a lot of potions makes training skills easier. While I love all the games, 2 & 4 are my favorites, and I've played 1 so often that I tend to rush through nowadays.

If the healer says she doesn't want anymore if may be because you picked up the bad mushrooms in the cave where you free the bear. You can drop ALL your mushrooms and gather ONLY mushroom ring mushrooms and she SHOULD give you money again.

First of all, topic was dead already, and the post you were addressing was already answered.

Second of all she has different dialogue if you have the kobold toadstools mixed in.
