I am playing a Paladin and have just started the initiation is back. I have had nightmares if this thing since the first time I played it so man years ago. I am playing on Windows 7 if that makes a difference. I get stuck right at the begin, Yusuf throws the first spear and I get this idiotic message saying I did something unexpected and get kicked out. How can I get past this? I have tried to down load a patch, but that did nothing and I loaded an earlier save and quickly skipped the conversations and that did nothing. I am computer illiterate, so please give me good directions, please help.

Also I tried to post this yesterday but I never got any thing I think something went wrong with the posting, so I am posting it again under a different subject heading, sorry if the other one is there, I don't want to bombard the forum, I need help though.

Just a shot in the dark, but have you tried running it in Compatibility Mode (Windows XP) yet? (right-click the game's start icon => Properties => Compatibility) It handles some things differently on your system and maybe that makes the difference.

I just did try compatibility mode and my saves are not their, so that dose not work. Thanks for the effort though, any other ides, or any one else know? I still need help

I just played through it a few weeks ago as a Paladin. Granted, I'm running Windows 8.1, but I also did not run it full screen. I'm not sure if that will help you or not.

You can change the settings by clicking "launch graphic mode setup" in the game directory (default location: C:\GOG Games\Quest for Glory Pack/Quest for Glory 3).

On the main "Basic Settings" panel, I unchecked "full screen" but kept the game on "Overlay". Under the "Advanced Settings" panel I selected "normal 3x" under the "Scaling Engine" option and set the display window at 1024x768.

One thing to note in my experience with QFG1VGA-QFG3 with these settings (though not with the new SCI engine in QFG4) is that when you select your character control panel (where run, sneak, rest, etc are), that second menu will disappear as soon as you move the mouse. I would click on it and use my keyboard cursor keys to select "rest" or look at my stats. A minor annoyance, but it may get you through your problem.

I don't know if that'll work or not, but I do know that I played through it without issue with those settings. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Ok, so I tried that. When I went to save my changes I got a ridicules message telling me that the name was not installed. What the hell! I have my game installed of course, I am playing it. It was located on my computer under Program files (x86) there is no other location, I don't know if it is helpful to know that or not. I used gog installer. So what can I do know, or is this so poorly installed by gog there is no hope, help please. I could not post this sooner because this webist was no working either, guess I can't get a break here.

Ah, this could be a problem. The Program Files folder is specially supervised by Windows 7, thus sometimes causing conflicts with older games. Always install them to a custom location like e.g. C:\GOG Games\

So I will need to uninstall my games and reinstall them right? That would mean all my save files would be gone. Therefore I can't fix this stupide bug problem unless I am willing to erase everything. Great. Is there any other way to fix this bug problem? Anybody?

It's not guaranteed that installing it outside Program Files will solve the problem, but it's worth a shot and it's possible to backup and transfer your saves.

The savegames are usually stored in the game's folder and named like this:
GLORYSG.DIR
GLORYSG.000
GLORYSG.001
...

As you're running the game from inside Program Files it could be that they are stored somewhere else. That's one of the things I meant by problems.
Look into C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Quest for Glory\Quest for Glory Pack\...

Backup the files and copy them into the folder of the fresh installed game.

Before un-installing, copy the game's folder to another location for backup, as well as all game related files in \Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\. Just in case something goes wrong.

Running the graphic setup from the installation directory does not pass the game parameter. Run it from the start menu instead, so it passes the needed parameter and allows you to change the configuration.

Thanks JMich for showing me I don't need to reload everything. However now that I changed the settings my saves are gone. I tried to change it back but they are gone. I will need to start over again. Great. The main problem, this stupid bug is still there. How do I fix it, so fare nothing has worked. Please help.

Various help pages suggest turning the Detail all the way down and the Speed all the way up. Beyond that, clicking rapidly on Yesufu when he throws the spears might bypass the error. I've gotten past the bug with this method several times. It doesn't always work, so keep restoring the game until it does.

I have tried to click on Yesufu and I know that dose not work. Thanks though, I think I turned down the detail also, I know I did the speed. I can't remember now though, my saves have been lost due to changing the settings, I don't understand why that would happen.

I see, that's really annoying. I'd try again rapidly clicking on Yesufu when he throws the spears, maybe you can eventually pass the bug.

You can also try restoring an older save and going on from there, maybe the glitch doesn't reappear.
