hamster101: THE MULTIPLAYER THOUGH!!!
They never actually had it fully 'in'. The code as it was would have allowed people to log in together and wander around killing random monsters in the wild, but that's about it - none of the code/scripting that would have been necessary to play the game's story or even have most of the town stuff function was in place at release and due to the issues with Sierra there was zero chance of getting the funds to actually implement it.
When I first played QfG5 I disliked it, because the graphic style and UI was worse than in the previous VGA games. QfG1 remake, QfG3 and 4 had a really nice art style and that classic Sierra user interface, which we all love. However when I played it, I learned to like it as a game, although I don't think it's the best in the series. While I'm not allergic to action elements, I prefer classic puzzles. And I liked the balanced approach of the previous games more than the action heavy approach of the last game.

PS: I also like the parser UI and EGA graphics of the first two games, but I think that the VGA art (especially in QfG4) is best in the series.
It grew on me. But I will say it's still my least favorite Quest for Glory game, even if it's only because the shift from 2D to 3D-on-horribly-rendered-background meant that actually navigating the game was a lot harder than it should have been. If the game had been fully 3D instead of the camera being locked in the center of the area, or if the game had been set up for 2D like the previous games, it would have been FANTASTIC.

To be honest, 1, 2, 3, and 4 are all tied for me. Each of them does something amazing or has good memories for me, and each of them has their flaws. 3 gets a lot of undeserved hate, IMO.
low rated
I love all the Quest For Glories. Five might be the biggest departure from the themes of the first four, but I routinely rate the entire anthology as my favorite game ever.

Now, for my personal tastes, the best to worst in the series is 4 > 1 > 2 = 5 > 3.

I agree that the game should've been full 3d, also the stealth would've been different and possibly more fun.
"Quest For Glory 5" is more of an RPG game than the first 4 games and less of an adventure game. It's longer and more complex than the first 4 games. The max score is actually 1000 instead of 500. There's 7 major tasks in this game plus a few sidequests, some mandatory and some optional. Plus there's quite a few different endings, depending in part on the character class.

If you prefer emphasis on the adventure/story element, QFG5 may not be your favorite. Truth be told, there are some elements that are not as good. They have unfortunately removed almost all of the fun of dying. There are no funny deaths nor are there funny death messages (in fact the death messages in this game are painful to read) nor is there good death music. And, while this game still has some of its trademeark humor, much of it isn't very good. Gnome Ann is the probably the most annoying character in the series. I really do not understand why the cooks keep screwing up the food or why Gnome Ann feels the need to tell the hero what happened. I guess the Coles thought it would be funny. They were wrong.

However, I do feel that "Quest For Glory 5" is by far the most replayable games in the series. There are several different endings and a lot of different things you can try. It's also nice because you are almost always completing a quest of some kind. In the other QFG games, you have to spend a lot of time grinding and that gets boring after a while. In QFG5, you grind during the Rites, so you grind and make progress in the game at the same time, rather than just grinding and waiting.

Overall, I LOVE "Quest For Glory 5." I think it might be one of the better games in the series. It's hard to know though. All the games have their strengths and weaknesses. They're all almost equally great
I love it, althought its a bit clunky on controls.

but the music, and the story makes up for it.

They did it pretty well to go along with QFG game.
