Okay, i managed to open image via power iso and download wav files. But quakespasm tells me that tracks are pre-emphasized. What's that and how to de-emphasized them? And what will happen if i won't do this?

Supposedly Windows 10 can mount iSOs w/o using third party programs:

Can game.gog be used by Windows 10 cd virtual drive mounting?
Hi,

I have mounted the game.cue disk image on Daemon Tools. I can see the audio tracks on Windows.
I have launched Quakespasm.exe with the option -cddev F , and now I have some music in my game.

How can I know that the good musics are played in the appropriate maps ?

edit : I've checked a few Youtube playthroughs, and it seems to be OK

Windows 10 can mount iso natively. Since game.gog is a .bin file, what's a good way to convert cue/bin to iso? Lots of programs, but many of them try to install unwanted third party software.

If you do convert the bin/cue to iso then you will lose the audio tracks as the iso will only hold the data track and has no cuesheet to load the music tracks.

You are better off not using the disc images at all and just using a source port to run the game, and provide fixed music tracks for the port to use.
Why would an iso only contain the 1st track (data) ?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_Mode_CD
Surely an iso retains track order.

EDIT: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_image#Limitations

Disapointing. I have the Quake 1 & 2 CDs, but I was hoping to rip to ISO stored on the hard-drive so I don't have to keep swapping CDs when I swtich games.

I'd go with source ports and not have any need for the CDs at all. I use Quakespasm for Quake 1 and its expansions, and I use KMQuake2 for Quake 2.

For Quake 1, links to the fixed music tracks can be found here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=119489135

For Quake 2, you can rip the music to OGG files and use them with a source port by putting them into a music folder under the baseq2 folder. Or you can use this instead. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=208440395
As far as I can gather, both the base game and the expansions use the same music.

Alternatively, you could try Ultimate Quake Engine (UQE). There is a Quake 1 and a Quake 2 version (as well as some other games, like Hexen 2 and Doom 3). This also supports music via OGG, MP3 and WAV. I've not tried this source port myself, though.

Since it was mentioned the last time in March 2017 in this thread, I just want to remind you that the times in the game.cue and gamed.cue (not in gamea.cue, apparently) are off 2 seconds and you have to edit them before ripping the tracks or playing the game with DOSBOX which also uses the cue files to play the tracks in-game, lest the first 2 seconds of each (music) track after the first will be cut off and added to the track before.

See this thread for already corrected times ready to be copied into the cue files:

https://www.gog.com/forum/quake_series/quake_the_offering_incorrect_cue_sheets/post15

That thread should be made sticky until GOG fixes this error, although after at least two years I have not much hope for that. I will contact GOG support right after posting this.

edit: Here's a new thread from a friend of mine who brought this problem to my attention: https://www.gog.com/forum/quake_series/quake_1_audio_tracks_cuesheet_with_wrong_timing

How do i run the dosbox version of this game so I can have the music working?

pctekgto: How do i run the dosbox version of this game so I can have the music working?
DOS Box is installed in the DOS Box subdirectory of the Quake install, probably C:\GOG Games\Quake\DOSBox

Go in there and launch dosbox.exe.
Then type mount c C:\GOG Games\Quake
Then type quake and you should find that quake is now running in dosbox.

No clue about actually getting the music working though, I'm fortunate enough to still have the original version before they replaced it with the current version.

Not entirely correct.

In Windows there is a hidden shortcut called "Quake (Software Mode)"
(e.g. Win7)
> All Programs > GOG.com > Quake - The Offering > Quake (Software Mode)
(path example)
C:\Games\Quake\DOSBox\DOSBox.exe -conf "..\dosbox_quake.conf" -conf "..\dosbox_quake_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit

The DOS Quake already have music because virtual CD is mounted by default. However you HAVE TO manually edit 2 .cue files in text editor (e.g. Notepad) to eliminate 2 seconds gap in audio tracks, filenames are: game.cue and gamed.cue
You may search the forum for details or try to apply changes as seen in attached screenshots.

Greetings!

I shared my solution for playing Quake games and their expansions with soundtracks there:
https://www.gog.com/forum/quake_series/how_to_play_mission_packs
Enjoy! ;-)
You can run the Dosbox version directly from the GOG client. Just go to the game in your list, click More -> Other -> Quake (Software Mode) and bam, you're playing the Dosbox version, complete with music.

IMO the original DOS version is the purest way to play the game anyway. You can pump the resolution right up to max (make sure Dosbox cycles are set to max) and it still looks pretty good. The native Windows version doesn't look *that* much better, to be honest. The mouse works out of the box too, no need to set that up. The only other thing you may want to do is adjust the keyboard controls in options so WASD are your movement keys. If you want a crosshair, open the console and type in crosshair 1. You're welcome.
If, like me, you find that running Quake in Software Mode results in terrible performance, you might want to try the following (it basically just replicates what the conf files do but for some reason doesn't have the same performance hit):

1) Launch Dosbox. I installed Dosbox separately from the one that's provided with GOG releases.
2) Mount C X:\[Gog Games Folder]\Quake
3) Go to C:, then enter: imgmount d "..\game.cue" -t iso. This will mount the CD using MSCDEX. Change the .cue file for whatever you're running (original, expansions).
4) Run Quake
