I haven't used Quake Injector.
---

The command line specifies the location and name of the program to run. Each shortcut has one.

Go to your Quake installation directory.
Put the mod in a folder called:
arcane

Right click on your quakespasm.exe and select "Create Shortcut"
Right click on the shortcut and select "Edit" or "Properties", or something similar.
Find the line that mentions quakespasm.exe, and add this at the end of the line:

-heapsize 256000 -zone 4096 -game arcane

Save it

If that doesn't work, replace
-game arcane
with just
-arcane

Alternative - Make a batch file:

Go to your quake directory.
Put the mod in a folder called arcane.
Make a text file in your quake directory. Name it arcane.bat

Edit the batch file in Notepad and enter this line:
quakespasm.exe -heapsize 256000 -zone 4096 -game arcane

Save it and then Run the batch file (which will run the game).

If that doesn't work, try this line in the batch file instead:

quakespasm.exe -heapsize 256000 -zone 4096 -arcane

Were you able to do it with my suggestion?

Hi! Yes, thank you! I couldn´t respond until today :)

I used the batch file method and it works. It´s amazing how "professional" some of these fan-made expansions look.
Do you have other favourites for Quake?
I've tried a few levels here and there, but nothing I liked.

I think I'll give Arcane Dimension a try though.

There are so many fan-made levels. Like hundreds of them... I´ll look for a "top 10" list or something :)

How is Quake II compared to the first one? I started it the other day, and the first level didn´t hooked me. The weapons don´t feel as satisfying to use :D
Also, it seems there are some glitches in the graphics when I use the max resolution on the gog version.

By the way, another game I bought recently is Dark Forces ¿Are there a Source mod for it?

Sort the Quaddicted reviews by rating, it's a good start!

You've probably also seen the recommendations thread here, but if not then have a look: http://www.gog.com/forum/quake_series/recommended_mods
I didn't find Quake 2 as satisfying either.

Quake 1 levels are more or less linear. When you beat a level, you're done.

Quake 2 has a weird interconnected level mechanic. It's confusing. I often wander around trying to figure out where I'm supposed to go.

Playing with a source port like KMQuake 2 or Yamagi should fix the graphical glitches though.

There's a Dark Forces' source port called DarkXL. Currently, compatibility is poor. The author says he's working on making a stable source port this year.

I can't get the DarkXL Build 9.50 version (the one available right now) to work at all. It's been at that version for the past 5 years.

I haven't played the original, but I played about haldway through the game using Dark XL, and the only thing that really seemed amiss was alternate fire for weapons. Especially the lack of alternate fire for grenades meant some tactical options were missing.
Apart from that the graphics looked good and the gameplay was excellent.

Thanks! I´ll try the Quake II source mod next.
Do you have a direct link for your prefered one? :)

I was also trying to download the Doom64 EX to add it to GZDoom, but I don´t know where to downbload the IWAD. I have the N64 cartridge, so it would be legal for me to download the port :)
Do you know about it? (Well, I should ask on the Doom community, but just in case hehe...)
Was DirectQ until I started using Quakespasm which is a very close replica of the software mode with the OpenGL filtering and effects from GLQuake.

I haven't tried Yamagi. Here are the links:

KMQuake 2

Yamagi

To load a wad with gzdoom, create a batch file with this text:

gzdoom.exe -file filename.wad

Replace the text: "filename" with the name of the wad.

Doom64 EX doesn't use gzdoom. It's a separate program. Go read the FAQs on their website to understand how the program works.

No one will share game files or tell you where to find them. That would get them banned.

Another question, what about the Exhumed/Powerslave source mod? It´s called Powerslave EX, and it´s free to download (no separate wads needed), as the original game seems to be abandonware now.
But I don´t understand how such a relatively well known and well received game from 1996 can be abandonware :(

They don't care. Even System Shock was abandonware for a long time.

It´s a shame, Exhumed should have had a better fate. Something like the recent classic Turok release would be great.

**Disclaimer - I am not a lawyer. Consider the following information more of an opinion than fact.**

There are different categories for old games.

1. When an old game is released completely free. I know of one game called Forsaken that was given away free and is now called Project X. That *might* be like Powerslave EX (I'm not sure). The download page says: "Taken down until further notice". Without more information, it's hard to know.

2. An old game's engine source is released for free, but NOT the game data. This lets people make source ports so the game will work on newer systems, but you still need to buy the game files to play the game. This happened with Doom, Quake, Descent, Duke Nukem, Shadow Warrior, etc.
--This is where Doom 64 is. The problem is that you can't buy Doom 64. So, although you have the N64 cartridge and the game isn't for sale, the game data is still copyrighted and sharing it would be illegal. Telling you where to find it would be against the GOG terms of service. Of course, if you find it by yourself, the question is: can you download it legally? -- I don't know. I'd just be guessing at this point.

3. Abandoned games - When a game's source code and game data are not shared at all, but the game is simply ignored and abandoned by publisher and developer. I don't know if it's legal to share these games or not.

Copyright laws also vary from country to country adding to the confusion.
