SmollestLight: As you may have noticed, Quake® Enhanced (updated and visually enhanced version of the original) is available on Steam since Aug 19th. We're in talks with the publisher and have their confirmation that the GOG version of the update is currently being finalised, and will be available on GOG.COM. We'll be sure to let you know when that happens.
GOG users who already own Quake will automatically receive the new enhanced version with a free download.

tomek123pl: and when exactly should this refreshed version appear? I installed the gog galaxy on purpose
This might be a reason to not use gog again then. If they don't get the update soon I might not use them again.

That's not the first and will not be the last time this happens, I guarantee you.

The problem with this is not on GoG's side, but most of the time on the publisher's side, as it is them who decide to publish GoG's version late (And I say "decide" because Bethesda/ID are not exactly a small development company that couldn't afford the effort of launching a game in Xbox, PS4, Switch, Steam, Windows Store but not here).

So maybe it should be Bethesda the ones to get angry with. Is not like the enhanced version has been already leaked, so I'm not buying any potential "but the piracy makes DRM needed" excuse.

Is Quake Enhanced close to release? It's been several days now since you said that.
Great news! Can't wait for it!
Awesome news! Can't wait to play it in a year when we get the update!

/s

We'll probably see it in September.
When you posted this, I was under the impression it was going to happen within a couple of hours or maybe days. This waiting sucks, I want to play it already!

Kuroko: And more and more and more... some of the most notable non-gameplay things that people should be aware is that enhanced edition has a different EULA to the regular Quake which prohibits e.g. modding basically.
I don't know what the EULA says, but it's not legally possible for an EULA to obstruct your ownership rights over a piece of software you've bought and owned, which includes the right to modify it as you wish.

What you can't do is then distribute your modified copy of your game, because you don't have a right to distribute the IP. But you can distribute the files to modify a copy of the game so that other people can also modify their copies of the game.

And you don't have a right to use a modified copy of the game on servers owned by somebody else, such as Bethesda. They own their servers and can set the terms for your use of them. However, they cannot reach into what you do with your offline copy of the game.

No matter what an EULA might say, people are lawfully entitled to modify their games.
This is a real bummer, but any frustration should be directed at Bethesda, not GOG.
Im also waiting patiently for the update. Dont want to rebuy the game for 10 bucks on steam.

If GOG does release the Quake Enhanced Update, please keep the original version available as a separate download. And please continue to include the original version as a bonus with new purchases.

I mostly like this Nightdive port (I also own the Steam version of Quake.) But the GOG version includes both the DOS and WinQuake releases of the game; a good representation of how the game was originally presented. The DOS version in particular is rather unique and there are aspects of it that have never been recreated in any port.

I already have made a backup, but it would be a shame if GOG’s version disappeared or was no longer available for sale.
There's another Nightdive remaster on the store; Blood Fresh Supply. It replaced the original DOSBox emulation in the store, but still offers it for download as an extra. Essentially, two games in one. Not sure if they'll do the same but most likely that's what'll happen.

Any news on this?
GOG really needs to start requiring publishers/developers to update on GOG at the same time as steam when games are patched/updated/etc. This same thing happened to me with buying spellforce 3 on gog. I now feel like I have to do research on GOG to make sure that I will be getting the same content as if i bought it on steam.

I'm thinking about getting battle brothers on gog but it sounds like the developers are also now only updating the steam version as well for that game.

I hate missing out on game content because I bought the game on the wrong platform.

Honestly, GoG should pull all their games until they do the update. This is really hurting my opinion of GoG.
Some of you are being incredibly silly. Until the update is released, there's still plenty of quality maps you can play on Quaddicted in the meantime.
