elwroy: Nothing seems to help here, textures look like total embarassment... no matter what values I put into autoexec.cfg

I don't like to complain at GOG but I think they should at least run the game on modern PC to proof-check for such situations. Bah.
seta image_downSize "0"
seta image_downSizeBump "0"
seta image_downSizeSpecular "0"
seta image_filter "GL_LINEAR_MIPMAP_LINEAR"
seta image_ignoreHighQuality "0"
seta image_roundDown "0"
seta image_useCompression "0"
seta image_useNormalCompression "0"
seta image_anisotropy "16"
seta image_lodbias "0"
seta r_renderer "best"

The above helps.

Don't forget the autoexec.cfg must be in the q4base folder. And when creating the file, don't forget to unhide extensions in the Windows filemanager. Otherwise it's easily seen as a text file!

File > options > view and uncheck "hide extensions"

Now you can remove easiliy .txt
It worked realy fine for me, nice post.

Iain: Quake 4 has issues on modern graphics cards with more than 1 Gb VRAM, it looks terrible even with Ultra Textures and 1080p resolution.

First off don't use (force) Ambient Lighting in the settings as it bleaches everything out and messes up the textures even more.

Now digging about past hour I found some cfg file fixes (Quake4Config.cfg located in q4base folder within install folder) that are working for me, these are copied from another source and not my work :

seta image_downSizeLimit "1024"
seta image_ignoreHighQuality "1"
seta image_downSizeBumpLimit "1024"
seta image_downSizeSpecularLimit "1024"
seta image_downSizeBump "1"

Absolutely IMHO.

Well as long as they patch it. pasting this shit into the game everytime you install it is jusy silly.
gog cannot do this, because these are personal settings. which do NOT only affect the Ultra quality setting, but override the lower ones too!
high rated
Actually if you go into the game and set it to ultra setting, then you only really need to change these three:

seta image_downSize "0"
seta image_downSizeBump "0"
seta image_downSizeSpecular "0"

In case anyone should be wondering what the issue is, look at the attached pictures. :P

Thank you! Works as described.

I made an autoexec.txt with Windows Notepad, change the .txt to cfg and copied to the following folder: C:\GOG Games\Quake 4\q4base
1. Simply Download this config file https://www.dropbox.com/s/n6g1qxf8wgdxzbd/quake4config.cfg?dl=0

2. Place it in your '' q4base '' Folder and your good to go.
Just as the day one steam version, I have to advice people to "Not" enable Ambient light
all the settings the community have posted do work, but if you enable Ambient light then the game will be missing textures making everything look plane.

don't use the in-game options (as max settings) just use the config commands listed by people directly to the .cfg file and everything should work great

when it comes to some effects (ex; particles) you will have to do some digging deppending on your GPU

Ah, that was the problem, somehow I misclicked and saved it as a txt type file. Thanks!

This, these are the only settings you want to change if you want to stay faithful to the original experience.
Thank God its not just me, I was thinking wow, this was released after Doom 3? It looks terrible, something from the original Xbox era.

Going to try these settings, thanks for the post.
