I have a problem with launching music in quake 2. i remember that it was great immersive building up fast-pace feeling of quake 2 and suddenly i launch q2 and ... silence. is there some way to launch it? some option? some hidden box? Playing it from youtube won't help as it won't affect location themes and won't change itself when needed.

Try moving "music" folder into "baseq2" folder.

I don't own Quake 2 on GOG, so I simply reported a solution found here; anyway reading more carefully, I now realize that you probably need to install an unofficial patch in order to make it work.

That said, I think that the better solution for you is to install a source port such as Yamagi Quake II or KMQuake 2: this will improve your gaming experience in terms of compatibility with modern systems and support, and will also solve your problem with the music.
I strongly suggest you to follow this guide.

This helped sorry that you have to do so much to get it running. Music in game changes a lot while without music You can try to sneak throgh level, with music it is fast-paced grindhouse ;-)
