I keep getting that error when trying to run the demo. Wanted to buy this game since it's on sale, but since demo doesn't work, full game probably wont work either (so no sale). Oh, and the error comes from Visual Studio Just-In-Time Debugger. Any ideas?

Why attribute the game's demo released years ago to that of GOG's release? I'd bet it'd work, unless there's something wrong with your machine.

$5.00 is alot of money. Best to make poor judgements off of demos released 5 years ago.
It seems like you guys feel I'm attacking your precious game lol. I assure, I'm not. I'm sure it's wonderful, just don't want $5 to go to waste. I'm cheap, that's why I shop here sometimes ^_^.

Yes, there's probably something wrong with my setup. Sometimes programs and hardware do clash. Although in this case it probably has to do Visual Studio. Not sure how, was hoping someone here knew but I guess not.

Btw, those that don't try out demos before purchase are fools. Doesn't matter if the demo is 5 years old, the game is that old too. And GOG doesn't remove bugs FYI.

...meh, I just realized I don't like adventure games.

You jump to conclusions fairly quick. GOG does indeed remove bugs, just not for every single game. From my experience with the game, there's been little to no issues at all—on both a Vista and Win7 install. And this thread is only a few hours old... perhaps there is someone out there who can help you more than what's already been suggested.

Also, Psychonauts isn't an adventure game—it's a platformer.

Sorry, you're pigeonholing it. It's an amazing game. :V

What OS are you running? XP?

Edit: Well whatever it is, I'll just post what I believe the problem to be, This is the win7 path, not sure if XP is the same but you should beable to find it.

Check to make sure your DEP is set essential windows programs and services and not the exceptions list version.

Right click My PC / Properties, click Advanced Tab, under Performance click Settings then got to the Data Excecution Prevention tab. Then just select Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only and restart Windows. Hopefully that should allow you to play the demo.

If that is the problem then I think Visual studio changes the defualt setting to the exceptions list setting.

Thanks Ralackk. Yeah, I tried that but DEP was already set for essential windows programs. I was stumped so I just went ahead and bought the game hoping for the best. Fortunately, it worked /cheer. Normally, I would never buy without trying demo, but all the reviews here say it's awesome, so what the hell.

Glad to hear it works. Have fun.

I don't normally like platformers myself but this one is genius. Even if the gameplay is nothing special the story and areas are brilliant and make you want to keep playing.

I don't really care if you see this, but I want to call you an asshole for your uninformative, baseless attack on someone who just couldn't get the demo to work. I hope you've developed an incurable cancer and are near death since posting this.
