Zomboid is a good game if you buy it knowing development is taking so butt-fucking long. I got back into it because they announced the creative mode but then decided to do cars and weather, and still working on animations for what ... 4 years now?
And yea it's highly annoying, but it's a good game as it is and fun to play. I own it both on GoG and Steam (GoG was day one purchase when they released here), so I don't run into a problem joining servers, but I do think they should implement Galaxy so GoG users aren't screwed. There's really nothing like this game online, it's fun as hell. There's nothing like chasing down punks with a shotgun that just tried to kill you.
But the devs don't really have a reasonable excuse for taking this long, especially with how many people they've brought in. I've seen games with in-house engines take less development time. All this time would have been better spent just rewriting their own engine, and they'd probably be able to implement shit faster than having to work around java.
If you're looking for a good zombie survival game this is certainly worth the money, though. And at least it's still getting slow updates.
