I thought I could give it a shot since it was on sale this weekend. All it loads though is the beginning Eidos and Core Design intro video's. Running in administrator doesn't seem to work and I can't seem to access any windows/graphic settings.

It also only loads a small window, not full screen, so I figured something to do with the display could be the problem.

If anyone has a solution for running Project Eden in Windows 8 let me know. If a simple solution for Windows 8 64 bit doesn't work here's some of my core PC stats:

Intel Core i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
8 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
2 TB Hard Drive

I too, am having the same issue. Picked it up on sale yesterday since I loved the PS2 version way back when, but all I get is the Eidos and CORE Splash screens and then nothing.

I did send a trouble ticket into support, I hope I hear something next week.

I will update you if I hear anything.

About 2 months ago, more or less, I had the same problem, and still have not found any solution yet.

Sadly this seems to be a dead section of the forum, but anyway I'm also interested to know if anybody knows how to solve it.

EDIT: To be fair, I did not send a support ticket because I fortunately still have other games to play, and so I just put Project Eden aside for then/now.

I received a response from support today, it said:

Unfortunately we encountered problems with this game during our Windows 8 compatibility tests on at least one of our testbeds and haven't been able to find a solution for them. Because of this we cannot guarantee that this game will work flawlessly on Windows 8.

Please check the product pages for a list of compatible systems for each game (look for the “compatible with” field next to the box art).

If I remember correctly, when I purchased the game last week (when it was on sale) I checked the compatibility and it did state that Windows 8 was compatible. When I checked it today, it now only shows XP, Vista, and Windows 7.
I'm wondering if they removed the Win 8 compatibility after I sent the support request in?

I was successful in running the game on WinXP through Windows 8's Hyper-V and can say that is flawless, but still disappointing that they removed the Win 8 compatibility after I already purchased the title.

Win 8 is missing from the Compatibility List, but it is STILL listed in the Minimum system requirements.

"Minimum system requirements: Windows XP / Vista / 7 / 8, 1.8 GHz Processor, 512MB RAM (1 GB recommended), 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 7 (compatible with DirectX 9.0c recommended), 2GB HDD, Mouse, Keyboard."

Probably copy-paste system requirements from a similar game.

I'll check my gamecard (I captured the screenshot back in July) later when I get back home from work. We'll see if Win 8 was actually present in the Compatibility list back then or not. Either way, guess I'll just chalk it up as a loss.

Alright, I checked my gamecard, and no, Win 8 is not listed. So, not GOG.com fault in this case. Oh well, who knows maybe someday there'll be a fix.

Weird.

I installed it on a Windows 8 laptop and it works just fine. It starts in a small window but it switches to full screen before anything.

Still it skips the intro movie.

I've found most games new and old can either work on a computer, or not work. It depends on the game, but also the computer. It would help greatly if and when this game get's proper Windows 8 support, instead of just by chance.

Is work underway to make this game compatible with Windows 8 or not?

I'd hate to think that all games I'm buying now won't be working whenever the next version of Windows is coming out.

Windows 7 will be supported until 2020. I'm still buying fresh copies of Windows 7 for the office where I'm IT Manager, because Windows 8 is a sad thing.

Thanks! I renamed the Movies folder to "Movies_disabled" and my computer is able to run the game without a hitch.

I got it working in Windows 8.1 without renaming the Movies folder.

After getting stuck after the Eidos into vids, there was an extra button on the task bar - Project Eden movie player. I just clicked on that, it took me to a black screen.

I hit the "Esc" key at that point and hey presto - it took me to the menu screen and have been able to play normally.

Hope this helps other people
