I decided that I want to play this game after all this time. But I noticed an "HD" version has been released for PS3.

It's more expensive, and reviews are mixed. Some say it looks much better, others say it's just a half-assed port of the PC version. There are no high resolution comparisons that can verify for good.

On one hand I can give GOG another sale, and on the other I can tell Ubisoft that supporting their old games is a good idea.

Anyone on here who can help me?
Thanks for the replies, I ended up getting the PS3 version because I thought ultimately supporting the publisher's attempt at supporting older games was better than GOG.

It looks nice, I'm pretty sure I saw a few instances of motion blur here and there and a little bit of bloom. Effects I'm sure weren't in the original. The assets themselves seem unchanged so it looks nor better nor worse, overall than the PC version. It has a little bit of aliasing but the HD resolution sorta mitigates that. Performs nicely, Playstation controls are a definite plus. Can most definitely recommend this version.

With the hi-res patch, I believe the PC version looks better:

Looks pretty nice. Somehow I'm not getting very far googling for that hi-res patch. Do you have a link to a site where I could get that?

I looked into the HD one out of curiosity (don't have a ps3) but found it suspiciously difficult to find comparison images and what I did see failed to wow. My biggest complaint for the game graphically would have been the geometry of the rounded buildings which didn't appear to have been treated in any way which is not a surprising as that could have caused game play issues.

Anyway it seemed almost a silly game to overhaul given that is not all that old and looks quite good still. Some games age quite poorly but POP sands has aged quite well and given the narrow disparity between where it was and what can be done with it I fail to see the point. If someone offered it to me for the same price on PC then I could see opting for it, but I see absolutely no reason to pay more for it AND be tethered to a PS3.
For one you get the correct playstation controls the game was designed for, for the other, you support the publishers desicion to support older games so gog isn't our only hope.
