I enjoy the game, but it has still a quite notable number of bugs, aside from the fact that it seems optimised for console with little adjustments in terms of comforts for PC users.

Such a waste of potential. :-/
Hard pass from me if it's a console game ported to PC. Especially with no mouse support

The mouse support will be available in the future.

Here's what I have found on the Steam update history page:

Hey Chemists,

Thank you very much for playing Potion Permit. We appreciate all your feedback and the team is working tirelessly to address as much of it as possible. As such, we'll be opening up the beta branch with the following changes implemented. To access the beta branch, follow the instructions below:

Right click Potion Permit > Properties > Betas > Select "public_beta"
It will download some additional data and will then be ready to play

We have now implemented mouse support
for you to test in the beta branch.

Full mouse support is now available for:

Main menu
Character creation
Dog naming UI
Settings
Journal
Inventory
Dog feeding UI
NPC interaction
Vending UI
World Map

Additionally, partial mouse support has been implemented for:

Potion brewing

Whilst these changes aren't final, we'd love to hear how you are finding the implemented mouse support.

To report any issues and bugs, please use the pinned discussion.
