I have a really weird issue with the first Postal. If I'm trying to use the joystick or keyboard, I can usually only turn left only one step - I can't hold the key/controller down to spin around. Strafing works correctly, as does turning right. He turns around just fine with the mouse, but strafing doesn't work right with the mouse.

Same problem here... I just use the mouse to move around anyway, though.

Same... was having a lot of difficulty until I switched to mouse control.
I just started using a gamepad and changed turning speeds whenever i played with keyboard. The problem doesn't happen with the special delivery levels though.
I recommened try turning the turning speeds up (ESC > Options > Turning Speed)
I did some research on gopostal.com (which is the official site) and this appears to be a problem much deeper in the code than initially anticipated, short answer is it's a significant bug which has never got fixed, and it's prevalent on win XP and Vista systems.
GoG didn't fix this and my feeling is that there's going to be an awful lot of complaints about it since the mouse workaround isn't to everyones taste.

Turning up the turning speed sort of works, but when you go to some areas of a level, the problem comes back, almost as if certain terrain types affect your turning speed.

It's not a "work-around"... the mouse control is a real part of the game and, one assumes, was meant more as the real control method than keyboard-only controls.
A work-around would be having to tweak an .ini setting or something like that.

Mouse control can be a bit kludgy at times (since it's based on rotation as opposed to point and click) and I would -prefer- the use of the keyboard, but if the keyboard system is bugged, then the product is still malfunctional.

I agree it is a malfunction, and GOG should have fixed or noted it. I just don't view mouse control as a work-around is all.
I guess I'm lucky as I preffer the mouse control, myself.

Have same problem. :(
Either way I would prefer to use keyboard only instead of keyboard + mouse.

Turning up the turning speed doesn't really help, it really helps only when you are moving and you are trying to turn but if you stay and want to turn it still doesn't work as it should.

Yeah this is a pretty major issue with the game. Mouse control is not the standard point and click as with most games, so using the mouse for turning is counter-intuitive at best.

LOL, I didn't notice that there are two different turning speeds, thanks man. :)
But still it's not what it should be. :p
Aw, man, so it looks like this problem wasn't fixed.
I played this game back when it came out on Windows 98, and have never been able to get it to run properly on modern machines.
I was hoping that GOG was able to fix it, so I bought the game without hesitation. Wish I had looked in the forums before I bought it.
Please, GOG, look into this issue!!! Left on the keyboard is essentially broken (too slow).
