i have a logitech momo wheel. the wheel works correctly but, not with pod. in options, i click on accel and the game freezes. i press the accelerator pedal, but nothing is happening. the only way to recover is to hit esc on the keyboard. but, the selection doesn't stick. the only way i can use the wheel is to assign a button, like the paddle shifter, to accel. so when i race, i have to hold down the paddle shifter for the entire race. same with brake. when i click it, the game freezes and i can't assign the brake pedal to the brake function. however, shift up and down work correctly and i can assign them successfully.

i also tried to use the logitech profiler but, it won't launch the game when a profile is created to the pod executable. all other executables work correctly from the profiler.

The game is waiting for button events (acceleration and brakes are on/off, not axis).
You have to map the pedal axis to button events (50/50 up/down) in the Logitech Profiler.

Is the PODX3Dfx.exe configured to start as administrator (compatibility tab in the properties) and the Logitech Profiler is running without administrative rights?
got it working after some chicanery. get it? chicanery.

nico, thanks so much for the help. you have a gift my friend.

next question, does forcefeedback work?

bfniii: next question, does forcefeedback work?
Not out of the box.
There are Force Feedback patches available on the UbiSoft FTP server.
But updating the PODX3Dfx.exe requires an alternate Glide wrapper and PodHacks.

The Haptics work quite reasonably with a Driving Force GT (POD 2.2.9).
For anyone else who stumbles across this thread, the way I got my wheel (Logitech G27) to work was to combine the accelerator and brake into one axis in the Logitech Profiler software.
POD works with force feedback wheel.

You'll need to install this FF patch over your installation (GOG version or classic with glide wrapper) pod3dfx.zip (to be found at Murmuran's index page, with files. (...podextra/patchs/FeedBack/)

In your game directory after first startup should be these files: Iforce2.dll, Pod_whl.ifr

If you have Logitech Wheel, go to Logitech Profiler, select POD executable -> EDIT -> Specific game settings
and tick 'Use special steering wheel settings' and tick 'Report combined pedals'

That should do the trick.

Then in game, select controller Wheel, configure Accelerator/Brake and you're all set.

My settings: glide dgVoodoo (MMX with 3DFX installation), PodHacks,
controller: Logitech Driving Force pro force feedback wheel

Cheers

I can't install the patch, complains about not being able to read ubi.ini

I eventually fixed that through the instructions on this page (under the heading 'Data Patcher')
http://pod.nicode.net/gold/gog/#data

But then it complains about not being able to open Ubi.ins.
That page I linked specifies where to download that file and that it should go in the game directory, but putting it there does no good, the patcher still complains.

You went to all the trouble of creating this post for people but missed out on some critical details, how to run this stupid patcher; which I still can't figure out.

flamming_python: I can't install the patch, complains about not being able to read ubi.ini
Some years ago I extracted all the patches that were once available:
http://pod.nicode.net/patches/ (you most likely want the 3dfxff.zip)
Infos, details, and original source are documented in the podpatch.txt in the same directory.

If the 3dfxff version has problems with your controller/driver this patch might help: http://hirnsohle.de/podUsb.htm
