Hello there!

I've been messing around with POD for a while and noticed that one or two things seem to be locked out or not working.

Graphics Options in the Options Screen seems unclickable I'm not sure why and also I was 3 races into a championship and had to go do something but I Cannot click save.

In fact nothing seems to be saved at all, so I have to re-set up my controller every time i launch the game.

Am I Doing something wrong here? All my Drivers, Windows, DirectX ect ect are fully up to date. Or is this Normal?

Same here, though I am able to save car setups. I also remember the graphic option being disabled on my original copy when using certain video modes (MMX, 3DFX, ...) so that could be normal. What is not though, as far as I remember, is that the save option during championships does not work... am I missing something or does anyone have a fix or workaround? W7/64 here by the way.
...aaand reading the manual I noticed "It is not possible to save your
game using the SAVE button on the statistics menu until you have
played four races.". So that fixes that problem (for me at least).

Each of these issues are unfortunately also present in the old retail copies of the game as well. I don't get the four race save thing, it never made sense to me as a kid either.

Graphics options were only available on certain video card setups, and the Glide mode used in this GOG version is not one of them. You're not missing much, GOG's release defaults to the highest settings available. The controller thing was always a pain back in the day as well, it never freaking saved my settings. I think it has to do with the fact that the game re-detects controllers on each startup, so it resets them each time.
Thanks guys that answers my general questions :D
Well I can't get the game to recognize any keyboard setup I try in the Options menu. So the game is completely unplayable on my XP sp3 machine?
Seems like I have wasted more money because GOG does not check these games properly before they release them! I had problems with another game (sanitarium) that I bought from GOG.
I will not buy anymore of the old Windows 95 and 98 games from GOG in the future!

For me, it only worked with a joystick. Try, it's worth it.
That would mean buying a joystick.....I may well do that later.

But there are a few common faults on GOG that irritate me no end:

1. They do not tell you in the game descriptions, that a joystick is needed.

2. Games (especially older ones) do not always work properly on any system. For example, I bought Sanitarium, which is a very good game, but it ran on XP/Vista and 7 PC's with terrible graphics glitches and corrupt colours. This made the game unplayable, also it would regularly crash.
I eventually found a program to slow my computer down, and this cured the graphics problem, but the game still crashes regularly.

GOG need to be more forthcoming in letting us know about problems, instead of selling old games as "fixed" when they are NOT!

I would be somewhat surprised to find that you could play this game with a modern joystick or gamepad. While they eventually got around to releasing a USB patch, things have changed so much that it's difficult for it to be usable. That said, I was going to suggest temporarily enabling an alternative keyboard layout and switching to US/101. Then I realized that it would be as frustrating for someone not used to it as when I was testing some stuff I programmed with a standard German keyboard. The oddities that result when you're not expecting them render it all but useless. So, if you can find a compatible joystick, that would be the best solution.
