I own the original pod.
I installed a large mmx install. Then I upgraded it to pod 2.1, then I installed 3dfx.
I am using dgvoodoo 1.31, because that one causes least problems. 1.5 caused a flickering screen and 1.4 had a black background around the all the words. 1.3 has a few issues. The damage bar is going funny, and on cars like the AI the wheels come up through the body. also, on the display screen the wheels on the cars are square.
Graphics card?
Windows version?
Both renderers (DX7/DX9) tried?
...?

I doubt that I can help you with your issues.
The latest drivers and Video BIOS updates are from 2002.
Wouldn't it be easier to buy a low-cost GFX with full DX9/XPSP3 support?

ps: with some cards/drivers dgVoodoo's "Force W-buffering" option helps reducing z-fighting problems
