Thank you very much! I've not experienced a single bug in this game except for the one that makes my game lag horribly when casting spells most of the time. Those with win 7 and nvidia should try this if they have horrible lag in the game. I never did have to run it in compability mode though.

I just simply right clicked my desktop, went to personalize - basic and high contrast themes and chose windows classic. Save your current theme before changing though unless you want to go through the tedious work of making your desktop pretty again :)

And here I thought GOG was supposed to fix these kinds of issues with older games on newer hardware.

I had flickering green boxes around character portraits, but managed to disable DirectDraw and it went away, but of course now I have the stupid cursor trail.

Does GOG ever make post-release patches? Or will they leave this one half-finished?

They get games working on newer hardware. It works. It's not half-finished.

Did you install the patch in the second link?

In my experience, the patch helped, but does not eradicate the pointer trails. As long as you're not moving the mouse around wildly, it's not that distracting.

Yeah, I did. It didn't change anything. /shrug

If this were a new game, we'd expect its developer to patch issues that players can't fix themselves (the cursor bug is one of them). It's great that the game doesn't crash, but I think it's reasonable for us to expect more.

I just found and used that, myself, and it works like a charm! No more framerate issues, no more graphical glitches from spell effects, no mouse cursor artifacts, and no DirectX SDK download or tweaks required. This is on Win 7 64-bit.

Dangit... I wish I knew about this before... I've almost finished the game with all the lagging spells. I thought that was just a problem with the game.

This REALLY needs to be in the mod thread for the game.

So after do some google research about a fix for it, i just found tha nvidiafix is a draw wrapper then, i googled for it and just found it http://bitpatch.com/ddwrapper.html , and it worked fine for me with win7 x64, nivida 9600 and i7 cpu. no need to do anything else.

My modded game began running smoothly at 1680x1050 once I installed this ddraw fix. It was very sluggish prior to that. I'm running it on Win7 64-bit running inside VMWare Fusion on a Macbook Pro (sandybridge) running OS X Mountain Lion and it's smooth as butter with this fix.

Essentially, this forces hardware acceleration off at startup so there's no need for all of the other hackarounds to do the same thing. It does this by modifying the game and so you don't have to install directx SDKs from 2008, another huge win.

Almost finishing the game and I find this xD This needs to go sticky, it's very useful.
