Kurek: I'm also getting the odd crash when travelling to a new screen. I'm on Windows 7 with an ATI 4800 card if that's of any consequence.
ATI 4850 here as well, could that be the culprit perhaps?

Nvidia here, I get kicked out here and there when entering buildings or different areas, always just after the auto save... which is a good thing I guess.
It kicks me to my desktop and all I get is windows checking for a solution. Thankgod it loads up super fast and my autosave is always there though.

Same here. I'm pretty sure it is something to do with the mods because i don't remember frequent CTD's with the vanilla version.
This thread suggests the crash problems are often related to the widescreen mod. Not starting a new game after installing it, for example, or changing resolution mid game.

Would suggest checking the PT cache folder to see if there are any files that are 0 kb (or seem very small). If so you can either delete the file(s), or just overwrite it/them with the full size file(s).

Great post, thanks. This is exactly what happened to me -- I transfered my save files from my Vista to XP machine because of the spell effect problems. My Vista machine runs a much higher resolution than my XP laptop, so after re-installing they had two different resolutions.

The error only really occurs when traveling to a very small area (usually the interior of a house). The solutions, as far as I can tell is:

1) never visit any "very small" area that you previously visited after the switch.
or
2) delete your save games and restart.

Sadly I think (2) is the only really viable option, although if (1) might work if you are early enough in the game or perhaps at a transition point.

I'm not really looking forward as I got pretty far into the game before things got unplayable but them's the ropes.

Lesson learned. For all those coming in, do not attempt to change your resolution unless you are prepared to restart the game.

Back to the mortuary for me!

I deleted my savegames, restarted the adventure and I still crash in certain transitions...
crashing for me too

all mods
and it is extremely frequent right now. ever third or fourth loading screen.

For example
went to give back fork game crashed
loaded the game again gave back fork, killed some thugs, went to next screen and tried to enter witch's house
another crash.

ugh. that's gonna be annoying if it continues for the rest of the game.

If you're running Vista/Windows 7 x64 try editting the torment.ini file :

Translucent Shadows=0
SoftSrcKeyBltFast=1
SoftBltFast=1
SoftSrcKeyBlt=1
SoftBlt=1
SoftMirrorBlt=1
I played from start to finish on my laptop (Win 7 64-bit, quad core cpu, nvidia card) with the fix packs and tweaks applied. I used the 2-CD version, but I always buy GOG versions because CDs die eventually.

If someone can give me an exact location of the crashbug, I will install the GOG version and see if I can repeat it.

the bug happens when you change screens in hive. entering and exiting buildings, areas. it happens in random
Hmmm weird.

It happened to me once when I entered the north west area but thank god for the autosaves... Hasn't happened again since...
I had this too. Was in the Hive, just got out of the Mortuary. Tried to go inside a small building southeast. Crash. Windows 7 here, onboard Intel graphics.

widescreen mod and UI mod in use, restarted game.

I often crash there too. I've got the widescreen and UI mod installed.

HOWEVER, if I load the autosave (which will have been made just outside the building) and enter, everything works just fine and I don't crash.

Just wait... it will happen again.

Could be, I meant that I don't crash again in the same transition.
