DarrkPhoenix: That advice you already got is pretty much spot on. Most of the game is dialogue, and Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma (in that order) will give you the most additional and beneficial dialogue options. Wisdom also is nice because it increases the amount of experience you get. I'd personally recommend starting the game with around 18 Wisdom, then distribute the rest of your attributes across Intelligence, Charisma, and Constitution (with perhaps a sprinkling of Dex). Strength is probably the stat you can most easily ignore at the beginning, even if you're planning to play as a warrior (the first companion you start with, Morte, is an excellent tank, and Dak'kon pretty much as the offensive side of things covered once you recruit him).
Also, keep in mind that you'll get plenty more attribute points as you level up, so you'll still be able to upgrade your stats significantly even if you neglect certain stats at the beginning.
Be that as it may, there are more and more times in the game when you need to fight. And you cannot have a nameless one that cant fight. If you pump all those stats, you might as well be a mage because without any dex and con, you will get hit all the time and be unable to take hits. If you are going to be a fighter or thief char, I would recommend tossing charisma, leaving it at 10 and putting some points into dex and con so you are not extremely fragile. If you going to be mage stick with the former's advice.
I strongly disagree with this for fighters. I have played a fighter and thief at advice from gamefaqs, and got destroyed due to crap stat placement. The game does have a lot of talking your way out, but there will be many times when you cant and having a fighter who pumps all his points into mage skills wont be good.
