My Nameless One is a level 11 mage but I can't access spells higher than level 5. Does anyone know why this might be? After playing for so long I figured I'd be able to access the highest level spells.

Actually, you don't get to use 9th Level spells for a while, due to how mages gain spell slots in AD&D. The horizontal access is spell level slots, and the vertical slot is mage level. To give an example, at level 13, you will have 5 1st level slots, 5 2nd level slots, 5 3rd level slots, 4 4th level slots, 4 5th level slots, and 2 6th level slots. Level 9 spells (which are the highest level spells in the game) aren't castable until you reach level 18.

If that sounds confusing due to how "level" keeps getting tossed around in reference to different concepts, don't worry, you aren't alone.

Thanks so much! Really enjoying Planescape: Torment but I admit I am new to the AD&D realm. Loved the comic and the spell progression chart is very helpful, too.

No problem :) Level 11 mage... Out of curiosity, where are you in the game thus far, and how many levels in other classes did you take before switching to a mage?

Plot-wise, I'm about to venture into Ravel's maze, though I've been stalling at this point for a long time, as I'm aware that you can't return to Sigil for a long while after going through the portal. I'm trying to have all the conversations I can and maximize my party's skills before doing so.

Now that I've killed the Evil Wizard and Nordom is in my crew, however (and after cleaning out Undersigil a number of times), I think it's about time that I moved on in the story!

Regarding your question about switching classes, I think I started off as a fighter early on in the game and then switched when I encountered Mebbeth (or around the whole Buried Village part of the plot).

I think I can definitely count Planescape: Torment as one of my favorite games, now, and I'm really looking forward to Torment: Tides of Numenara.

Groovy. As for when you switched, if you switched before reaching a certain level as a fighter, you should have some special stat bonuses coming your way as you gain levels.
