I tried but it crashes. Just changes the resolution and crashes.
I've tried. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04.

The install went fine. I chose "Lauch" from the installer, but the same thing that happened to you happened to me. Then I cd'ed to the game's directory and ran:

wine Torment.exe

The game starts fine, sound and all. I can't change windows using TAB, doing this I can't get back to the game, but it works.

The character creation went just fine, but upon starting the game there is no sound. The game actually works, but there's no way I'm playing it without the sound. Unless I can solve this issue, I'll run it on my wife's computer (win XP).
Has anyone tried it with the various patches mentioned in other topics?

As for the sound issue, try playing around with or killing Pulse Audio.

It's not a Pulse Audio issue. Some people withou Pulse Audio on winehq had the same problem. And when the game loads the opening and the character creation screen, I can hear the music flawlessly. The problem is specifically when starting the actual game.

Perhaps applying those patches helps. They are supposed to fix a bucketload of bugs, after all.

I remember playing on an earlier build of Ubuntu without the patches. It played fine through Wine!

Pozdrav kolega, BTW. :)
I couldn't get my builtin Intel card to work at 16bit so they only way I could run it was to edit the config file (torment.ini) to force Windowed mode (change Full Screen=1 to Full Screen=0)

It works, but I'm finding it difficult to scroll...
Hi

Using ArchLinux with Wine 1.3.4-1 with default settings and no mod installed, I can play emulating the Virtual Desktop at 800x600. Without that, I can't play it. Does anybody being able to play in full screen?

Regards

Does that mean it works only in windowed mode for you too?

Yeah :S And even in windowed mode sometimes the game crash, I think it's for the color depth, so I'm using a Virtual Machine with XP and playing fine with ony one minor problem: the cursor left shapes after moving it around a static screen, like in the screen when you assigns the character creation points, or in the journal screen, but after refreshing scrolling the text it clears, so it's playable for now.

I played it without any issues in wine two or so years ago, though I think it, as all the other infinity engine games, developed some issues in connection with the DirectDraw rewrite. Can't remember if I was able to run it in fullscreen though.

UPDATE: A quick update, I am running it in wine 1.3.3 as I write, including all the mods in the mod guide. Not sure if it is required, but I run with DirectDraw renderer explicitly set to gdi, and RenderTargetLock set to readtex. Furthermore I have the game set to fullscreen run in a full screen virtual desktop, with "allow window manager to manage/decorate" both disabled.

The only problems I have is that sound sometimes stutters (as if the sound data takes a while to load from disk), and that I can't change desktop or unfocus the wine virtual desktop (the dreaded "out of gdi handles, expect crash" error thing).

I fixed the sound issue trying out different devices in Wine configuration. The one that worked was OSS.

I have it running without a hitch using the virtual desktop. Without the virtual desktop it just hangs on a black screen and never starts.

I wonder if you haven't observed the freezing when the game window looses its focus? That's the most annoying issue for me with this game.

Yeah, I get that. It hesitates for a moment when the window comes in and out of focus, but I didn't consider it a big deal because a lot of programs will do that since it can take a moment for the desktop environment (I use KDE) to redraw the borders and decorations.

I just wish I could lock the cursor to the window so I can use edge scrolling. Checking "Allow DirectX apps to stop the mouse leaving their window" in Wine configuration doesn't have the expected behavior, so I have to use the arrow keys for scrolling.
